Compatible Hard Drive –
As long as a Hard Drive can format to FAT32, it would be compatible correct?
I am looking to buy Canvio 3TB External Desk Top but am scared to buy it if for some reason it isn't compatible.
Thanks. Any suggestions on most storage/best performance Hard Drives for modded consoles appreciated.
I can be wrong but doesn't a HD greater then 2TB need to be configured as GPT instead of MBR ?
I seriously doubt FAT is compatible with GPT disks
but as said, I can be wrong about this so if someone wants to confirm this ?
edit: I was correct: The boot sector uses a 32-bit field for the sector count, limiting the FAT32 volume size to 2 TB for a sector size of 512 bytes.

2TB is the largest size external drive the PS3 can use. I'm not sure if it will not recognize it or will simply only use 2TB of it, but either way you don't want to get a 3TB external.
Not checking before buying my 3tb Toshiba hard drive which I now find out I can’t use with my ps3 no matter now I set it up with 3 partition fat32 with 1tb each or with 2 partition one 2tb and one with 1tb. Ps3 still will not detect the hard drive. I did find by setting the hard drive up to my computer as an external hard drive then use the window media player through the network to view all the movies on the hard drive. So far this works for me the only thing I use the hdd for is to save movies not for games. I am not for sure if I am correct about this but I think the hard drive when connecting it to anything computer or Ps3 it’s going to report what size it is 3tb, 2tb and so on. This I believe is the reason Ps3 will not detect it. I think Ps3 will only detect up to 2tb
