Cleanest/Best way to return to OFW from CFW 3.55?
Cleanest/Best way to return to OFW from CFW 3.55? –

Hey everyone, my PS3 has been collecting dust since Uncharted 3 and with only a few games left that I want to play (which don't work on CFW and TB) I'm entertaining the idea of just upgrading to OFW for these and future games since I only use my PS3 for exclusives which are practically drip fed to us and it sits around doing nothing otherwise.
I'm assuming it's a bad idea to just install the latest OFW PUP with all the unauthorized stuff I have on my drive at the moment. I only want to keep my game saves. What precautions should I take or how should I go about upgrading to OFW?
Thanks in advance.

Just update straight tot the latest firmware. Nothing bad will happen. Sony can't check what's on the HDD like people claim they can. Sony has never done a ban because of cfw or any homebrew on the PS3 either.

Really, even downloaded PSN games installed from PKG's?
For space consumption reasons, I'm thinking I should probably delete those, homebrew and any multiman installed games I have on the drive as I won't be able to get to get to those files or delete them once back on OFW right?

Is backing up and restoring saves as simple as copying them to a USB stick then copying back after reformat? That will work just like that?
Also, our of curiosity, if you reformat while on CFW, does the CFW install remain intact and just the drive contents is wiped out or does reformatting also revert to OFW?
I want to keep this system, I don't have the time to sell this then go look for a new one. If the scene ever develops past what it is now, maybe I'll come back to cfw, if it's not possible I won't lose sleep over it at this point.

some game saves are copy protected but only a few to my knowledge try and no im sure it will still be on cfw after reformatting but you will be good to go for updating to which ever fw you want

It depends, NOR consoles will ask you to reinstall the firmware, so it may not be cfw. Nand consoles will keep the cfw.
