Clarification of BDB/Kmeaw 3.55 homebrew issues
Clarification of BDB/Kmeaw 3.55 homebrew issues –
I purchased a phat PS3 (CECGH01) with a broken BD drive several months ago. I've dismantled the beast on several occasions, attempting to re-align the drive/fix the slidey mechanism, to no avail.
I am fairly sure my logic board is good, since I was able to install Kmeaw's 3.55 CFW. The BD drive makes sounds, as if it is attempting to read a disc, but it doesn't recognize or read any media.
I have installed several homebrew .pkg files. When I try to run them, it goes to a black screen which is only defeated by a hard reset. I know this is a common issue and I've done a bit of reading here as well as some other forums.
Today, I came across the Bluray drive bypass firmware thread (a bit late in the game). This is awesome news to me, but I want to ask a few questions regarding the use of the latter firmware to make sure I have things right.
I assume I will have to downgrade from Kmeaw's 3.55, install the bypass, and then ???. I have tried using bdemu in the past with no luck. Will the bypass fix my issue and allow me to run homebrew? Are there any other things I need to note/account for?
