What the cheapest way to buy a ps3? Used on eBay? Used kiosk/demo on ebay? I'm looking mainly for internet deals. I don't want to check the pawn shops every week or something till I find a deal. Also, are used ones reliable? Will they last as long as a new one? And are ps3's in general prone to breakdown (i.e. YLOD, need reballing, etc.). Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Sorry, I probably should have put this thread in the "PS3 General Discussion" thread.

I got my 60GB PS3 on Ebay 2 years ago, and it is still running strong. Paid $370 for it and so far I have been extremely happy with it!

What kind of price range are you looking for? Your best bet is to look for auctions that end mid-week and in the dead of night so you have less bidding competition.
Before you insult someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, you are a mile away and you have their shoes!

Catalog? You pay more money in the end but after the week or two you've waited for the PS3 to arrive you've probably paid about £2...

Well, I don't want to spend much, as little as possible really. Maybe $200 is my max. Is that too low? I want to find something for $150 if possible. Anything I should know about buying one used? I know reflowed ones are bad.

That's a good idea about mid-week. You got a pretty good deal.

Where do you live? US? Not sure if people in the US have the same deals as we do in the UK. I got mine from littlewoods, I paid a high price in the end but only payed about £6 a week. Reason I went with it is because I didn't have to save up, I paid a small amount each week that was totally negligible from my current income, it was right at the time and I got a PS3 for "free." I'll have paid it off in a couple of months, I don't miss the money AT ALL, so I'm gonna get my self an HDTV next.

I think patience is definitely my suggestion. I managed to get my PS3 for about 25$ after waiting a year for it. I bought my new 160 GB PS3 with a free controller and 20$ PSN Card at Target early this year. Sony had a promo where if you applied for their credit card and were accepted, you got 200$ that you could spend on Sony products at Authorized Retailers. On top of that, I racked up some points on their Sony Rewards site and also had a 50$ Target gift card and waited for their deal on a free controller!

Dude getting a cheap PS3 is a risky venture man. If it has suffered from YLOD once it is prone to get it again. My buddy that fixes them professionally says this "Ps3's with YLOD are like herpes, you can treat it and make it go away for a while but it will rear its ugly head up again" So I know you want a deal but it is best to get a new one so it last and not someone else's problem PS3. This way you will get your monies worth instead of risking gambling your $200 bucks as they can only be reballed/reflown twice before they are shit and must be tossed out. SO if you get one that has been fixed already there is one time and you don't know if it was done properly so it may last a month and it may last a year but it is not a permanent fix I assure you. So do you want to risk $200 or spend another $100 and make sure you have a fully working and warrantied deck?

Wow good job chinaronald. I wonder if there were any other fees associated with the credit card or if you had to use the card, etc.

I understand atreyu187. I definitely wouldn't get one that has been reflowed. I thought reballing was a permanent solution. Guess not. Anyway, I didn't want to buy a used ps3 that had prior issues. A big reason I didn't want to buy new was because of all the sh** that's going on with SONY right now - lawsuits, etc. Kind of didn't want to add to their revenue and instead buy used. So do you think buying a working used ps3 that hasn't been reflowed etc., like a kiosk or demo version would still be a risk or breaking?

Does Best Buy or someone else offer extended warranties after the 1st year? Thanks again in advance and for everyone's responses.
