Change the HDD to cover the tracks?
Change the HDD to cover the tracks? –
11-12-2010,09:17 AM
Hi there,
I'm planning to install an alternative HDD in my PS3 3.41 to prevent from being banned if I want to go online regularly one day. Am I right that the jailbreak only changes files on the HDD, so I can easily switch to my old one?
Thanks in advance!

You need to cover your tracks by removing these files:
game.dat and patch.dat (dev_hdd0\vsh\pushlist)
boot_history.dat (dev_hdd0\home\00000001\etc)
Nobody really knows exactly what needs to be done actually. The above is just one method to help.

Gaia Manager and MultiMan do that automatically. Don't know why you didn't write that as you posted it in the online tips thread
But I'm of the opinion that it doesn't matter if you delete these files or not. Either Sony doesn't care, or they have another way of seeing what you're up to.
Additionally if you delete those files isn't it even more suspicious?

Nothing against Math (legend). Next quote irrelevant to above lol.

Yeah! I was aware that both Gaia & MultiMAN done this for us. I just forgot to post that bit of information. I don't think it would make it anymore suspicious. Sony is probably contemplating on what move is next.
They have been running around in the Sony headquarters like chickens with their heads cut off since the jailbreak was announced. With the more recent news of PSN jailbreak I bet they're in a more panic mode now.
I can't believe there's been no bans or at least suspended accounts yet either.
Maybe they don't what to do really. Too many chickens from one coup I guess trying to come up with a solution.

It is suspicious man. Blank files get uploaded to them then xD Unless when the files are deleted that means nothing is uploaded?
Also regarding why they haven't blocked PSN yet. Hopefully that means it is unblockable, or that they noticed an increase in the number of PSN purchases in these last few days

Must not be too suspicious to Sony evidently.
Who knows just yet whether this is not detectable by Sony. I bet they're just loving all the money now being spent from the PSN purchases for the short term anyhow.
I'd bet we'll see something in the near future to block this from working. Then again, they have been scrambling for a fix of many things since the news of jailbreak.

game.dat and patch.dat (dev_hdd0\vsh\pushlist)
boot_history.dat (dev_hdd0\home\00000001\etc)
So these are both just on the hard drive. Last night I upgraded my HDD (used to be 80gb, had a 250gb laying around).
Is there any files on the NAND I should be worried about? I'm debating taking a backup of my nand and seeing if I can format it and start fresh...

I'm pretty sure this isn't possible.

Perhaps I worded it wrong. Not totally format the nand, but what about backing it up, and doing a system refresh, per se. Take it back to factory specs, even Recovery Mode firmware upgrade/recovery?
