With CFW on the rise, will the dongle industry collapse?

Or do you think there are enough 3.41 enthusiasts to keep the dongles relevant? Personally, I love booting up into 3.55 without having to worry about the timing or if I left disc in the drive.

I can see the dongle 'industry' as you put it collapsing, yes.

For anyone NOT on 3.55 CFW, they're essentially paperweights, or purely for getting into service mode.

Then again, there's PSGrade for just about every other device that's not a dongle. But, yeah, with Hermes 3.41 CFW out now, dongles are pointless. I still got a E3 in it's original packaging and 3x XPLAIN boards. Oh well, I can at least sell the XPLAIN's on ebay.

theyre useless to people still on 3.41 now too. hermes 3.41cfw. their will be a need for dongles as long as there is a need to downgrade.....for now atleast

Downgrades don't need dongles, my friend. I did my PS3 from 3.55 to 3.41 to 3.15 to 3.55 CFW using my phone. I haven't even seen any of the marketed dongles advertise 3.55 downgrading.

i agree you can use a phone, calculator etc. i just downgraded from kmeaw the other day with my e3. so people without smart phones or who dont want to spend 100 on a ti84 may still have use for a 25 dollar dongle ya know?

Depends on the dongle I think. E3 will be around for a while yet as its quite versatile and can run any hex etc.

And we will need to downgrade in the future I`m sure. Certainly the sales will be less now at any rate.

Fortunately, I bought the BlackCat USB which has an alternate use (router flashing) and will still have a resale value in the coming months.

Not everyone has a phone that can downgrade. Cheaper to get a dongle for £* than buying a phone for £*** just to downgrade your PS3.

dongles is good alternative for people who are not able to understand the CFW scene. its still pretty fresh and there's bugs all over. theres are a lot people who are sticking to 3.41/modchip for their JB needs. also, we dont know if sony is tracking these PS3s with the CFW, and how they are going to go about banning people. so i dont think dongles are not go away, they will be around atleast until the CFW scene becomes more stable like iPhone JBs.
