cfw qusetions

(just scroll to the bottom for question if you dont want to hear my rant)

ok i have been trying to read and keep up with all this new cfw and shit but i cant seem to follow whats going on mainly because of the way this shit is poorly worded,first of all can people please stop ****ing calling every single ****ing patch that comes out a custom ****ing fiirmware
when i think of a fw or a cfw i think of a .pup you compile and install or flash not a little pkg file that adds 1 thing to an existing fw start calling that shit a cfw patch file or some shit, this calling of everything a cfw is getting way too ****ing confusing

what i want to know is this , and nobody seems to want to give me a ****ing answer in the first post on the kmwea thread on the news page ,first it says this kmwea thing is a patch, just a patch,a lvl2 patch.pkg ,it says all that it does is patch lv2 to let you run backup managers

but then later in the same post its refferd to as a cfw, WTF

then to make it more confusing at the very bottom it says that if you have wutangrza with the geohots jailbreak patch that you can only use homebrew that is signed by geohot(well it doesnt actually say that so clearly it says some other ****ing convoluted shit that took me for ****ing ever to translate into what i just said)

but then right directly under that it says if you have kmwea cfw(notice a second ago it was just a lvl2 patch now its a cfw all of a sudden) that you can use homebrew packages signed by either geohot or something about beaing able to use debug 3.41 jailbreak packages ,first of all what does that even mean?? does that mean that regular homebrew package files that i have been using all along with the 3.41 jailbreak will work???and that they will work with wutangrza with the geo patch and this new kmwea patch(the same patch it just said is only to make managers work ) applied???

second and more importantly why does it imply if not flat out say that
this kmwea thing is a cfw ?not only that but a cfw that allows unsigned packages (or at least i think that what they are trying to say ),
it just ****ing got through saying a few scentences above that,that all it was ,was a patch that let you run managers ,now all of a sudden its its own cfw and you will let you install unsigned packages????did i miss something ???at the bottom where it says summary it says you cant use use unsigned packages on wutangrza+geo but that is what you would be using if you are using this wutangrza with geo-jb ,and according to what it just said this only adds lv2 backup support ,doesnt say it does anything else ,specifically says otherwise,

so did i miss something is there a kmwea patch (the lvl2.pkg backup enabler patchthat you run on the ps3 after you boot and b4 u run ur manager)AND a cfw called kmwea too(like a pup or something)????i also see some instruction for compiling something in dos ,some instructions on how to add something im guessing this lv2 patch to something else its not specific as to what your adding or what your adding it to, that is ,or why you would do that or what it does or what its for, its where it says use bspatch
is that to add this lvl2.pkg patch into the pup,?but why would you do that(i would guess so that you wouldnt need to keep running the .pkg everytime you reboot ,but it says or implies that you still would need to do that somewhere else in the post) if you still need to run the lvl2 patch .pkg at every boot weather you add it into the .pup file or dont add it into the .pup file ??what are thoes instructions for??? adding this lvl2 patch to 3.55 ofw pup? or adding it to the wutangrza pup?or adding it to the geo pup?or adding something else entirly to one of thoes pup files?and why?, what would that do for you? ,it says weather you add it in the pup and and flash it or you dont ,you still have to run the pkg everytimeyou boot to make managers work anyway

so in summation

what exactly is this kmeas ??is it just 1 thing ,the lvl2.pkg backup manager enabler patch file or is it 2 things ,the lvl2.pkg backup manager patch file AND something else like a cfw.pup that can be used directly and on its own ??or some other file that needs to be bspatched to another cfw.pup if so which cfw.pup, and who's???

so can i use my old .pkg files to install all my old 3.41 homebrew or not???will all the homebrew programs i have installed now that i installed with the 3.41 jb still work under one or some or all these cfw's which ones??

and what do i need to do to be able to use my old 3.41 .pgk homebrew???

if its not possible then why woud anyone want to use cfw when you can only use signed homebrew ,and nobody except geohot can sign said homebrew??

and if you need to use homebrew signed by geohot then where do you find it??? and what has been signed by him and what hasnt???

but then again ,how can the backup managers be working when geohot said he wouldnt support anything to do with lvl2??? ,obviously he didnt sign managers

i also heard something about this somehow enabling or adding the apps/home folder to the xmb for discless booting?what does that???

You can use original packages for 3.41 as long as their signed as debug packages. You can also use packages for 3.55 that are signed with geohot's tools. There is a thread full of signed homebrew located here: http://psx-scene.com/forums/f118/lis...ew-apps-75092/ The problem is, no one had to sign anything on 3.41, so those packages are still out there screwing with people that are playing with the CFWs. Once the signing tools started coming out and we were able to start signing 3.41 packages, that's when it confused everyone even more. You need the packages that have been signed since beginning of January or so. Anyway, that thread should help you out enough to find what you're looking for.

also ,you never said which cfw will support thoes debug signed apps

so if i install wutangrza cfw pup then patch it with the geohot-jb cfw patch
will the debug signed .pkg files work or not??(im asking because it doesnt seem like that lvl2.pkg file does anything beside patch lvl2 to add syscalls,and its just a .pkg not a .pup like wutanhrza and geo,and you need to run it all the time)

(not to mention i only figured out that by watching a christech tv video about it[thanks chris],cause the way its worded really sucks ,i cant figure out wtf there tyrying to say maybe you should put a link to his youtube video in the first post too, as well as reword it a little or add some notes or something)

why would unsigned pkg not work with wutangrza with the geohot-jb patch
but then, work with the kmwea thing,( i say thing cause im not sure what it is still)(like if its just that lvl2.pkg bm patch or that and something else)(in the video he says hes installing wutangrza and he runs the lvl2.pkg file and talks about using the lvl2.pkg at boot ,but he never says its kmwea or calls it that,or says anything about another cfw, or says anything about it adding debug .pkg support or an apphome folder,he never says anything about cfw ,except wutangrza cfw)

Here's the best explanation I've found so far as to which packages can be run and which can't:

The reason different stuff runs on kmeaw's CFW is because he did extra NPDRM patches that geohot didn't include. Stuff that bypassed most package checks.

ok but are you saying i just flash the wutangrza then add the geohot jailbreak patch
then i just put the lvl2.pkg file on a flash drive and install it and thats it

,it will do the npdrm patching as well as the lvl2 patching and it will allow the debug signed .pkg files and add the app/home folder and all the featues of the kmwea

so i dont need to use bspatch command in dos to add any files from kmwea to either the wutangrza.pup or the geohot-jb.pup before i flash thoes cfw files ,

and there is no need to do anything but install the .pkg file in wutangrza patched with geo cfw thats it ,and ill have all the latest features ?

and btw ,where it says in the first post of the wutangrza thread, there is a link that says bmpatch or backup manager patch ,so is this kmwea lvl2.pkg patch file that is now being called cfw ,is it the same thing?im assuming it is,i assume that they added the link there after the kmweav thread was posted

No, you get all the latest features with kmeaw. His firmware allows the debug or retail signed packages. Add lv2.pkg or a bm that auto patches and you're set. You'll also get app_home with it. Here's a good tutorial : http://psx-scene.com/forums/f187/cfw...rsation-76406/

I'll bite.

Geohot's CFW = a small patch PUP that allowed for installation of packages signed with his tools on 3.55.

My CFW (Wutangrza) = The first successful implementation of flukes1's peek/poke firmware in the wild. It allows for peek/poke which allows developers to insert syscalls into memory. If you use mine, you have to flash Geo's over top of it afterwards if you want to be able to install packages.

Kmeaw's CFW = Took the lv1.self and lv2_kernel.self from my CFW, took and improved upon Geo's CFW and combined them. His contains everything mine does + already includes a tweaked Geohot patch on top. You should use his CFW.

Regardless of what firmware you are on, you can probably safely flash directly to Kmeaw's CFW (he and I both released our CFW's as binary diff patches, for both size and legal reasons, but by now there are precompiled PUP's in the wild I'm sure). If you're really paranoid, install OFW 3.55 first, then install Kmeaw's 3.55 CFW. There is no chance of brick unless you have mega-downs :lol:.
