Been trying all day to get a CFW on my phat P$3 (3.41) but keep running into 'no applicable software' message and can't update to 3.55

I've tried USB drives, SD cards, Micro SD cards, burnt the file to BR and nothing, tried installing from dash and safe mode but not a sausage??

File goes in the root of a storage media formatted with fat32 PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP but still nothing? Is there any chance the PS3 needs the original 60GB HDD in to complete?

Have done a system re-set - trying to hold off doing a full format because it take 2 day to format the 500 I've got in

    Any advise people?

Did you downgrade this console at one time? If so, go back and read the 3.55 downgrade thread. There's a step you missed.

No chesh, when I had the console it was on 3.15 so I just updated to 3.41 with the JB dongle.....

You using a spoofer? If so, uninstall it. That could be causing the issue. Also, are you making sure you're using a FAT (16 or 32) formatted device and the directory structure on it is x:\PS3\UPDATE and your PS3UPDAT.PUP file is in the UPDATE folder? BTW: Capitalization is a must in this case.

The only thing I can think of is there is a spoof knocking around as the other points you mention I have done to the letter - that said all PS3break managers have been deleted?

    Just unlucky maybe.....

Check your System Firmware Version and make sure it says 3.41. Also, try install 3.55 OFW before CFW via System XMB -> System Update -> USB.

    Just for troubleshooting purposes:

    X:/PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP
    fat32

Also put the cfw on the root of the flash drive and try it in recovery mode.

Guys, thanks for your help! I sussed the problem, the OFM PS3UPDAT.PUP was the problem - its was showing pup.pup, I've now just set it as PS3UPDAT and its loading up now.

    Praise the lord lol!!

    Thanks guys....
