CFW Brand name wars –
I seen a guy in IRC mention earlier, that ps3 CFW's had become a competition of name brands
You got flukes geohot waninko Wutangrza its only a matter of time before theirs a Hermes and one from a bob and a fred.
At this rate one team will come out with a firmware update that does one thing people like and not something another one does that some one likes with no collaboration this is going to be a cluster**** for awhile.
Hell the same guy that brought this up is working on his own CFW to reenable Third party controllers on 3.50 + but he on the no back up manager train
So to all devs I ask two things make your projects open source and share to keep all of them the same as much as possible
And remove downgrade checks to make downgrading easy through xmd that way when we start seeing bob's 3.60 firmware we upgrade to it it sucks and we want to go back to hermes 3.41 cfw we can just before we re upgrade to wannikos 3.55
I don't really think anyone is in a position to be making requests at this point, although a little more collaboration and less competition might make everyone's job easier, but hey, more power to you, I say.
At this stage, competition is necessary, in that it sets the stage for combining the fruits of their efforts once those fruits are actually ripe. With the influx of people trying to get in on it and contribute, collaboration at this point would be risky to the end product. We're still seeing what does and doesn't work. Would it be better if all the mistakes were global?
The biggest problem with devs making their own type of cfw is they do it for different reasons than the other might. This is why they dont all work together in the manner people would like.
There are also different 'dev levels" out there too, so some know better than others and some want their name known, so they dont share or collaborate with other devs for the better good of the scene.
So the best thing is to wait until things 'stabilize' in the hacking scene and then choose what method seems the best to use. In the meantime, there will always be those willing to be the "guinea pigs" and its those people who help devs to refine things to becoming a step closer to stability.
