So the homebrew, emulators and apps that have been made have EBOOT.BINs, created using the SDK. Would it not also be possible to create an EBOOT.BIN linking to a particular game's files, and thus we'd be able to launch the EBOOT.BIN on our 3.41 (and lower) PS3s and hopefully boot the games?

I guess ensuring that the custom EBOOT.BIN correctly refers to each of a game's .self (or whatever format) files at the correct moment is crucial, but surely a little tinkering around could at least get a games menu or something to load?

Well, even in the pc-game scene it was never possible to write .exe files for games without encrypting of the original exe to reproduce it.
Its probably easier to brute for the key to decrypt the eboot

(It is like making a key for a door but you don't know how the lock looks inside)

    I see.

Well then what about the case of the PSN game Super Street Fighter II HD Turbo Remix. It has one file in the USRDIR directory. Would it not be possible to create a custom EBOOT.BIN to launch this one file?

No, it's not possible. Those EBOOT.BINs are the engine and the logic of the game, gamedata is usually textures, models, audio, video. You can not write your own game executable for these data, however we can decrypt these EBOOT.bins and modify them like what crackers do on PC scene. For exammple you can patch the EBOOT.BIN to not require any license/DRM file, but then again it will be piracy.

It's not possible to decrypt them yet though right? graf_chokolo's recent findings have taking us a step in that direction though?

Damn. Were you into the PSP scene? Why didn't Sony implement the same sort of encryption for games for PSP as they do on PS3? PSP games also launch using an EBOOT.BIN, yet we never ran into as much trouble as we are with PS3. We could dump firmware willy nilly on the PSP, and games didn't have to be cracked.

Was the PSP just that badly opened up? I guess Sony learned their mistakes...

There is ALOT knowledge for PS3. Some information have been known months and some for years. But since public jailbreak those who know, keeps secrets on they own and base em some anti backup shit.

Now these new dev's and persons who work for public have to invent wheel again and that takes time.
