Eh, I don't see it as a particularly useful feature.
Also bear in mind that adding this as a feature really is just saying "Hey look, we use our JB/CFW for pirate games!" to $ony. With that in mind, I do not think we'll be seeing this for a very long time.
I'd rather see a 1TB HDD that fits in a PS3 without having to alter the caddy myself... but that's not something the dev's can do.![]()
Also my question was would running from bd-r solve some problem games not running from hdd?
I'd be all for a CFW that can play PS3 games via BD-R, and maybe even a way to get them to work form DVD-R or Dual Layer DVD-R depending on size. I have seen BD-R disks for $1.29 and burner for about $145….that's almost as cheap as Dual Layer DVD-Rs….Backup Managers are great, loading games from hard drive is great too…..but, the option to burn to disk would be a great added bonus as well. With some games requiring data install, the drive tends to get full quickly. NFS Shift has like 3GB install, GTA IV has a large install, X-Men Origins has a 2GB install, GT5 has an optional 8GB install. Then if you want PSN games, DLC, then game saves, you're actually looking at a good bit of data here and there taking up alot of drive space that isn't PS3 backup games….Yes, i know the solution, get a bigger hard drive…well, what if you like ALOT of DLC, what if you actually download movies off PSN? What if you do alot of demos? Every little bit of disk space saving helps…
As of 1/26/2011:I agree with the earlier post that Sony (as I do actually) think people will just use this for playing copied BDRoms. They will come down ever more in price hence easier to get hold of, like now with DVDs.
I say leave the feature out.
Developers will get really pissed off with the PS3 as it will be so easily hacked hence pirated and leave the platform.
No game developers = dead PS3. We are going to get so many clowns hacking their PS3 just to play copies, I can see it killing the PS3.
(I was around in the Amiga days when nobody developed for a superior system due to piracy - nobody was putting any money into the platform and it died.)
Sorry to sound like a boring old twat, but the 12 yr old spotty noob invasion is getting big enough as it is
Rant over.
Sounds like the backup manager programs just need a proper interface and a childlock?
Anyway, bd-r support is bound to happen, but it'll probably come from the counterfeiters/organized crime side rather than 'the scene' side of developers.
Ka-ching makes the world go round.
Don't worry, I'm sure Sony will get the CFWs off PSN before long...well, what if you like ALOT of DLC, what if you actually download movies off PSN? What if you do alot of demos?
