Can't go into Service Mode
Can't go into Service Mode –
04-10-2011,11:57 PM
I have been trying to get a ps3 into service mode, but it doesn't seem to be working. I have done it many times before with other playstations, and i know how i am supposed to do it (with the button holding/pushing process).
Everything goes normal until i hear the double beep, which usually indicates that it is going into service mode, but it doesn't show any picture. The playstation works well in every other aspect.
I just installed firmware 3.55, and am trying to get into service mode to install CFW.
If i can't get the ps3 into service mode is there any other way i can get it to play homebrew?

Service mode and the recovery menu are 2 different things. you want the recovery menu. to get there, turn the ps3 on. then touch(phat)/press(slim) and hold the power button until it forcefully shuts off. then touch/press and hold the power button until it beeps, beeps again, then beep twice consecutively. now you're in the recovery menu. to install homebrew, install the cfw 3.55 kmeaw for best results. Here's the link:
Here (CFW kmeaw + OFW 3.55 + GAIA 2.05 ready to install pack)
To install, use the last option, i think it's option 6 System Update

For one, its recovery mode. Don't get them confused. Ya can screw up different things in service mode. Anyway, try RCA outputs and see if ya get a picture.

If you still don't get a picture after doing my suggestion and chesh's then you can install 3.55 kmeaw from the xmb. the update functions the same for what you need

Sorry, I do mean the recovery menu. I have also tried to use an old school RCA cable with the same effect. The xmb will work normally still but no recovery menu comes up.
Here is an example of what i'm talking about:

I'm not sure if there is a solution to this, because i've been looking for quite a while. It just seems defective.
Anyways, I can't update to 3.55 kmeaw from the xmb because I am already on FW 3.55 and it says that I'm already on the version that I want to flash so it doesn't let me proceed.
Does anybody have any suggestions on how I can get homebrew working on this thing?

Install the kmeaw patch. It should be a couple of megabytes. It does the same thing as the full 3.55 kmeaw. I don't have a link for it right now but it's on Google. Just type "kmeaw 3.55 patch download". It installs straight from the xmb
