can ps3 play vob files

can ps3 or showtime play vob files, from the external harddrive

The VOB file is a standard DVD format so it should be able to play them with no problems. But if it doesn't recognize them you can change the extension from ".vob" to ".mpg" and it should play without any problems. The VOB files are just standard mpeg2 files.

EDIT:

Just tried it and both the native video player and showtime play VOB files from any folder on a USB hard drive.
