Can I swap blu ray drives from two separate PS3 models?
Can I swap blu ray drives from two separate PS3 models? –
I currently have a PS3 40GB model cechg01 that has a non-working blu ray drive. The drive will not accept any discs, it seems the eject/receive mechanism within the blu ray drive is not working. I've also been informed by the original owner of this PS3 that they also got "disc read errors" when attempting to play games or watch DVD movies.
I've acquired a YLOD 80GB PS3 model ceche01 that has a working blu ray drive.
Is it possible to simply switch out the non-working blu ray drive with a working one? I've been told by a guy at my work that it might be possible to do this if you re-flash something or other on the PS3 to make it 'think' that the replaced blu ray drive is actually the original blu ray drive that was married to the motherboard. (By the way, is that statement correct, are the motherboards married to the blu ray drive that was originally installed in your PS3?)
Thanks for your help!
The PS3 mainboard is married to the controller of the blu ray drive. Simply take out both blu ray drives, take the blu ray controller(from defect drive, CECHG01) and place it in the blu ray drive from the YLOD PS3(CECHE01). Now place drive in the CECHG01 PS3.
Said in another way, swap the mechanical part of the blu ray drives, keeping the married parts (mainboard + blu ray controller) together. Good luck with it.
success! :) –
Swapping the controller from the 40gb ps3's non-working blu ray drive to the 80gb ps3's blu ray drive and then installing it in the 40gb ps3 has resolved my blu ray drive issue!
