To buy a backup ps3 console now?

With the new firmwares blocking the use of a jailbreak device, should i buy a new ps3 slim from a shop that has 3.41 firmware or below now (if possible) or should i wait a year for my current ps3(fatty) to break for good and then buy one? I don't think anyone will find another exploit for the new models.
Whats everyones plan to a maintain a jailbroken ps3 for several years?

My fat ps3 was refurbished by sony 2 years ago so i don't think there is much life left in it at the rate i use it.

i have just traded my fat ps3 in for slim 120gb only got £120 for it but was on its last legs id say trade in now while still can before it breaks again

If you can afford to buy a spare ps3 then by all means go for it. Another factor to consider is to look at how much is at stake and how much you could lose if your fat ps3 breaks and you can't replace it with anothe ps3 that is jailbreakable. I have 20+ games that I could entirely lose out on if suddenly I lost the ability to jailbreak the ps3, too much at stake for me. The issue of whether or not newer firmware ps3's will be hacked or not is entirely unknown, and I'm certainly not holding my breath, sony might not make the same mistake again. Look at the 360, the jtag was short lived, newer or updated 360's can't be jtagged. About a week ago I sold a spare 40gb fat ps3 I had just bought two weeks prior to that, and immediately turned around & bought a new 160gb slim, which came with fw 3.40. My main ps3 is a sony-refurbished 80gb fat that I bought earlier this year, never had a problem with it and when I took it out of the box it actually looked brand new. It runs VERY cool, hardly gets warm, my new 160gb slim actually gets quite warm compared to it. I'm not expecting my fat ps3 to get the ylod since it runs so cool, but in case it does, I'm covered with the slim. So yeah, if you can afford a spare ps3 without taking a big financial hit, NOW is the time to buy one.

I would say just sell it. You've already got 2 years out of it Sell it, save up some more, and buy a new 120 or 160 GB Slim and you're all set

I think il keep my current fat ps3 and buy a new slim ps3. Im looking to have several years of jailbreaking gaming so il need both. Are the models being sold nowadays come with 3.41 or under and would it say on the box what firmware it is currently using? Il start shopping around for a ps3 soon

That's what I did. I bought one and (slim 250) and it's still sitting in the box just in case of a rainy day. I'm going to buy a 3rd to get online one of these days.

I think Walmart still sells them at 3.40 or below.

cuz i highly doubt sonys gonna slip up with the ps3 again
took us 3 years to get this scene going and im not trying to wait another 3 years on FW 6.70 for another exploit


Id buy another ps3 just incase my JB gets fked up, but thats a bit ridiculous at this point in time.

Yeah i got a 160GB Slim the other week, i have a fat too, but the wifi broke on the Fat so i sent it off to my local repair shop, got it today but now it says 'FW 3.50'

DAMN IT! haha that's my plan totally screwed up... i told them not to update the software and only change the wifi module, looks like they didn't listen. Time to pop them a call I was going to have my fat as the main Jailbreak device and then have my Slim as an online one, but now it's the opposite way round and i'm just worried i don't burn out my new slim. The fat won't be used much now cause it's only for online.

P.S: i think you are all forgetting about CFW's and the development going on... that would be brilliant if released as i could downgrade from 3.50, like many others.

you should rip the repair shop a new one!! They totally gimped your console by updating the firmware, which they absolutely didn't need to do. Almost seems like it must have been intentional, just to F with you. You should have a talk with the owner and demand a pre-3.42 console.
