Broken BD-Rom drive options
Broken BD-Rom drive options –
I have a 3.55 kmeaw box with a completely broken bd-rom. I've also got a 3.73 box which isn't used (tends to overheat). Assuming the clip on the motherboard isn't broken can I just swap the drive - even if BD playback wouldn't work? If not what version of CFW has the most disc less compatibility?
You won't be able to play any games that require a disc if you switch drives, or watch any movies, or even access the drive, so it would be completely pointless to swap right now. Wait until the new tools for re-marrying drives are more user-friendly and then replace the entire drive itself.
Ok thanks - how about best option for discless firmware - is it Rebug?
If the ps3's are the same model and have the same drive, then you can switch them. You just have to use the blu ray drive board that is married to the motherboard of the one you want to use. If the drives are the same you can simply unscrew the drive board off the bottom of the drive and swap it onto the good drive. I just did it yesterday on a CECHG01.
I would try to swap the Blu Ray drive mechanics, but keep the controller board (mainboard + BD controller is married).
This way you may get your kmeaw PS3 runnings discs again, good luck.
