Bricked ps3 - downgrade solution?
Bricked ps3 - downgrade solution? –

Hi there, I truly have used the search function for an answer to this wee query but to no avail. Just wondering if it's possible to save a bricked ps3 (it stopped halfway through a firmware update) through the downgrading method - ie putting it into factory mode with jailbreak dongle and just updating it with a pkg firmware? Hope someone can give me the nod in the right direction - for the girlfriend's wee brother, so brownie points can be won here.

There have been quite a few users that have been able to recover their consoles via this. First things first though, is that you should try a firmware update via PS3 safe mode first. If that doesn't work, then move on to trying the downgrade method. PlayStation® Community: How to access Playstation 3 SAFE MODE

Thanks mate, i'll try this first before the downgrading method. Cheers again.

Just got the console there, but I'm thinking it's unsalvagable. It's not switching on - just beeps, light goes green, then a lighter shade, then just flashes red. There's also a disc stuck in the drive. I tried switching harddrives with my own one, but the same thing happened. I take it the only option is Sony?

Downgrade may still work as it checks the authentication at the lowest level possible.
