This won't happen. Sony has to pay these repair centers to run their warranty service. The longer that a console sits in the center being inspected for evil programs the more money Sony has to pay out to the repair technicians. In the end it costs them less to throw the console in the repair queue and send the customer back a refurbished one at no cost.

I've worked in a Sony repair center myself. We mostly handled VAIO computers but it's the same business model across the board. The more quickly a repair is handled, the less it costs.

Well there you go, at least some good news for bricked console owners.
Still, I think Sony's is gonna do something they're not gonna stand by and fix all of a sudden thousands of consoles bricked for "unknown" reasons now that they hear that a CFW is causing alot of the bricks. Not to mention Sony would win more then they would lose if they'd held the console for further enhanced inspections. Remember if you they find out the cause of the brick was CFW they're liable by law not to repair it. Better paying repair guys then repairing bricked console for pirates.

apparently most people dont know who geohot is...if we got iphone jailbreaking legal as long as george sticks to what is true (assuming he didnt have anything incriminating on his pc like pirated games...but to quote kobe24 i doubt sony will go "oh yes give your console that you ****ed up, even though we told you this would happen we will spend a many a man hours to fix everyones **** ups" if they did then i dont care if anything bricks my console if sony has to take it and fix it then they truly lost

I would think Sony would fix them, if your out of warranty and paying that is. I'd imaging that Sony has the tech to rebuild the bad flash with little to no problem. Then they have a bunch of older model referbs sitting on the self ready to replace older model PS3's. No more handing out newer models. Add to that, the YLOD will eventually claim those systems. Another 150$ and another referb from another brick. Hell, just swapping an unbricked system for a bricked system you can easily repair sounds like a cash cow.

Then again, they could move new systems by not repairing bricks. If I brick my PS3 during all of this and they don't repair it, I'll probably get an XBOX360 next. I'm still in warranty. Though I figured that didn't mean much.

All in all, the worse they'll do to you is refuse service and return your system. The worse they'll do to the community is keep your system, send you a referb and build a case around a one mile long four foot tall wall of bricked PS3 systems. I'd totally try to send it in. If that doesn't work throw it on Ebay as a bricked system. People will buy them for parts.

Any Aussie users with a lovely new brick - $ony wants $250 which covers postage, parts and labour. You get a 3 month warranty on it after that.

I'm not convinced that its worth the dollars when you could get a new slim model for around $200 more (only around $100 more once you sell off your brick). Only problem is you lose the extra usb ports / Back compatibility and HDD data (like all your game saves if you're like me and didn't have a backup of them).

The best thing to do if your sending in a bricked console is wait until the next official firmware update then claim it bricked while updating to that. Sony ain't stupid, they will be well aware of what happened yesterday and probably will be having a quick change of policy re bricked consoles.

what could $ony see when i send in my bricked ps3 without HDD?
are there any logs about what i have installed? (like BM)
i know that they can see that i used cfw but that's not a big deal cause i don't use the warrenty.
    so my main question is:
Can $ony see that i played backups?
