Brand New PS3 came with 3.42 on it!!

I have ordered 4 brand new 160 gig slim ps3 systems from newegg.com . All came with 3.40 on them until now. I recieved this system Friday and just opened it up to mod it. To my surprise 3.42 was already installed on it. Does anyone know of a series of sn or bar codes to avoid? Guess I will have to go in the store from now on instead of getting free shipping and no tax from newegg.

I'm surprised they'd be out that quickly....I just picked up a 320GB move bundle from Futureshop (in Canada), and even it came with fw 3.30 preinstalled.

Are you sure it was "new" and not re-stocked or something ?

Did not look like it was opened before I got it. Looked just like the other brand new systems I bought from newegg in the last 2 weeks. I was shocked also. I didnt even turn it on I just took it straight out of the box and put in the upgraded hard drive I bought for it, put in my usb stick with 3.41 on it and soon as the controller connected it asked me to format with 3.42.

i think this is definitely the case... cause i know i did. bought mine about 3 weeks ago from newegg and it came with an ancient version of the firmware... somewhere in the 2's ....

this reminds me of the situation with xbox 360 and the people running around trying to find the right codes on boxes so they would know if there was a liteon drive inside or not.

i'm surprised they could have 3.42 on consoles already .. . .

It wouldnt suprise me if someone bought one from there, updated and then read about the hack.

Reset the system, packaged it all up nicely and returned it for whatever reason.

Its not very honest, but its what I would have done if I found myself in that situation with a nearly new PS3.

Even with bulk buying I would be shocked if 3.42 ones have already been shipped out and are landing in the US and Europe etc..

just go to kmart. im sure they have plenty of 3.41 and lower ps3. mine is still selling some old brand new xbox1 game.
