boy do i need help, just updated from 3.55 kmeaw to rebug 4.21 and have a huge problem –
i did this yesterdayand all worked fine a sidenote i have a sata 1tb hd connected internally w/ a connector cord to the laptop hd slot. i have had problems before where if one of my kids bumped the cord it would make me reformat the hd. i was on 3.55 so no problem. well the cord was umped and now when isart psit at connect ps3 controller tousb then
"if system cannot be restarted you must reinstall system software connect storage media that contains update version 4.21 or later press start and select at same time"
wll if i hit start and select can reinsall system software w/ rebug4.21 or wil it want ofw 4.21 wherin i am screwed for i cant get into xmb screen to downgrade rebug 4.21 to 3.55 rebug pls help on what to do. i just bought a 500gb 2.5 laptop hd to solve the loose cord problem but i cant backup this hd 1st caus cant ge to xmb mode ls elp on what process to take cause i think the internal emory of the ps3 (stock 3.55) will be asking for 4.21 now
btw i still have origional hd but its on 3.55 if that adds anything to the equation thanks
I will keep an eye on this thread to see what another advanced user will say about how to go about fixing this issue!
But for me, I'd try Rebug FW for the installation and count my blessings to see if that will be accepted.
PS3: Slim 320GB / CFW KMEAW 3.55 / multiMAN v04.xx.xx / blackb0x FTP Server v1.2 3.55 w/ FlashFXP 4.2.x
PS2: SLIM & PHAT / FreeMcBOOT w/ESR & OPL 9-r651 / SMS w/PSClient v1.3.1
PSP: PHAT / 5.00 M33-6
What you need to do is
1) take the disc out of your drive (VERY IMPORTANT)
2) boot into recovery menu
3) do the system update from there. You should use whatever you were on (Rebug 4.21??) You may get the message about pressing start and select. It's ok to do that
4) If that fails use the 999 dowgrader instead and repeat step 2+3
You should be fine. Worst case scenario is the drive will have to be formatted again. If you get prompted to do that make sure you don't. It usually just indicates a damaged partition table. If that's the case here's a fix for that
1) connect your drive to a USB enclosure and connect to your PC
2) download and install Easeus Partition Manager
3) In Easeus you want to delete the partition and create a new unformatted primary partition. DO NOT FORMAT IT
4) When you plug it back into your PS3 you want to boot back into recovery menu
5) Do the system update again as described above
I know it sounds like it will delete the content from the drive, but since you're only altering the partition table when you plug it back into your PS3 and do the system update from recovery it will restore the correct partition table and leave the rest of the drive untouched. When you boot back up everything will still be there
thank you i will try but, if it fails i would use the REBUG_3.55.3_999_DGR_PS3UPDAT.PUP which is a pup file , so would i put that in the ps3/update folder of the usb and remove the 4.21 rebug.pup sorry if its a dumb ? but im assumiing i would go back to recovery mode, and use the downgrader as the update file right? thank you again
yeah, you got it. Just make sure you rename it so the PS3 will recognize it
thanks it worked, now to get rid of that hd w/ the wire problem. whan i put in new hd can i install rebug 4.21 right after its formatted or do i need ofw 3.55 1st which would mean 999 downgrader 1st thanks
always install whatever was on the old hard drive. Glad you got it sorted out
