I'll try and keep this as succint as possible.
I bought what I believe to be a CFW PS3 off someone yesterday. It is a Korean 320GB Black Slim (I live in Korea). Upon boot up, the Rogero logo comes up. On the XBM, there are many indicators that this is a CFW PS3; multiMAN, install package folders, etc. However, when I enter multiMAN, there are many files (how much are we able to talk about on here? :P) but almost none of them work. The vast majority cause the PS3 to crash back out to regular desktop. One of them, let's call it MGS:HD works.
When I go to system settings to check the firmware versions, it simply states 'Version 4.31'. In my experience with CFW on the PSP, shouldn't it cite the CFW creator, like 'Rogero 4.31' or something?
I would also, preferrably, like to upgrade to a 500GB HDD, which I have.
So; what do you think I should do?
A) Return the PS3, because the firmware version and games not booting up sounds like something is not on the level here
B) Maybe try and revert back to 3.55 while at the same time upgrading the HDD, and then going from there?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm a complete noob to PS3 CFW because I never thought I'd get my hands on one so never really read up on it
You know with multiman it is meant to go back to the XMB, or desktop as you call it after a game is selected.
Then if you have a game disk in there the game choice you made in multiman can now be run by selecting the game disk icon.
Will try that this evening and report back, many thanks. What do I do in multiman first though? Do I go into the settings of the file and select 'direct boot' or what?

Don't mess around with the settings too much. Just select the game you want to play. It will go back to the XMB and you launch the game from the disc icon. The only setting you should ever need to try is the direct boot/bd redirection option but only if it doesn't work normally. And yes, it's supposed to say just 4.31
Well this is awesome news, everything seems legit now. I was just working under the pretense of how PSP CFW worked, silly me.
So, how do I remove the files in multiman that are already there? Can I just press Triangle and delete, or should I be 'uninstalling' them in some special multiman way?
Don't feel bad. I did the same thing two years ago when I first installed CFW. I couldn't figure out why Multiman was kicking me back to the XBM, then I saw the back up in the disc location.
Haha yeah but now I'm thinking the MFW setup on my PSP Street is also working, I've just been doing THAT wrong too lol
So to properly remove an existing game off my HDD do I just go into its settings and hit delete, or should I be doing something else to properly remove it from my system?
Hit delete dude or just delete it manually off your external HDD if your using one MM will clean it up for you.
Cheers guys for all the help. I've been using what was on the HDD for a few weeks now but now wan't to add to it.
Here are the files that I have:
'PS3_DISC dot FSB' File
What do I do with them? Just pop them on an external and plug it into the PS3? Then go to the install packages folder?
That 'Update' folder is scaring me, I don't want to do something stupid and install OFW on my PS3 by accident. What is it, and is it safe? Do I have to use it at all?
put them in \GAMES\GameName. GameName can be anything you like
