Big Problem with Rock Band DLC
Big Problem with Rock Band DLC –
Hello fellow sceners, I have a problem here that may have been discussed in the forums earlier but I couldn't find it, so here we go, a repost. I just got my new 500GB drive in today, and I was about to slap it into my PS3 to replace the 160GB it came with to allow myself to play all the backups that need to be on internal so I can shelve my games. Anyway, I was originally just going to copy over the savedata to a flash drive through the comegenie file manager, and say to hell with everything else. But i thought about it and realized, I've purchased hella DLC songs for Rock Band through the PSN. I don't care about my DLC games, none of that stuff, but the only stuff I ever bought off the PSN was RB tracks. I've got some great track packs. So I guess I'm asking, I'm pretty sure I'm stuck having to use the PS3 backup and restore feature which I guess I don't mind, but if so, will the rock band songs be restored and playable afterwards, or will they still require activation? If so, I'm going to be extra, EXTRA pissed.
Why, because you're making the choice to JB your console and forgo everything that you've legally purchased on PSN? Jesus, if you're that worried about your DLC, buy another PS3. /rant
Ok, now that that's done, you're not deleting the HD that's currently in the PS3, so why don't you try the backup utility and see what happens?
It's because a 500GB HDD = $40, and a new PS3 = $299 in sony's pocket. I'm a poor college student asking for opinions on retaining DLC, not a rant on you disagreeing with a Jailbreak. All the games I've backed up I legally own, with the exception of the shitty ones. I did the JB for the emulators and the linux, which Sony took away from me in April.
Moving on, I'm planning to do the backup and restore part anyway, but I don't know that I can just swap drives if I want to go back to the DLC, so I'm asking for input from people who have tried this before.
From what I've heard, everything transfers over using the utility. Now, as far as DLC that needs authentication from PSN to work, I'm not so sure about. There was one user that figured out how to take RB DLC from one JB console and copy it over to another, but it would only recognize one song pack at a time. But, I don't know if they had originally purchased the DLC, or had gotten it via other means.
Any idea what that user's name was?
i know it didn't work for me. i backed up the entire machine using the PS3 backup utility in the system menu, and also manually copied all of my DLC songs via ftp.
i replaced my 160 gig drive with a 320, and now every songs asked to be authenticated via the PSN network.
if you don't need the extra space, and care about the DLC songs, then don't do it.
my wife is pretty pissed that a lot of our songs are can't be used, and so are my kids
Unfortunately I don't remember who was working on this before. I believe it was in the General Jailbreak section of the forums. Try a full forum search for Rock Band. Can't be that many threads on the topic.
I was able to copy DLC from a JB console to another JB console.
You need to copy the actual song data (located in BLUS30050 for NTSC version at least). Then you also need the ".rif" file that corresponds to that purchase in your home/00001/exdata or whatever folder (depends on the user).
I think you also need a .act file for everything to work smoothly. However, I was able to merely copy the exdata and the file information and it works, ONLY when I jailbreak though. I cannot play any of my DLC now without jailbreaking. No, I don't get it either.
