    I think 750 GB is the best choice now since 1TB HDD doesn't fit the HDD case without modifying.

    So please recommend the best 750 GB for PS3.

    I know that some models have the compatibility problems (stuttering). What is the best choice right now?, and before using it, Do I still need to patch/make it to SATA1 first?, if so, what tools should I use?

    Thanks,
    Yoth

    WD Scorpio Blue 750GB is the one to go for at the moment I reckon - I've seen it recommended a few places. I've just been out and bought one myself in fact but haven't fitted it yet.

    Theres a comparison here by digital foundry that includes the Scorpio Blue, though only 500GB.

    DON'T TOUCH ANY SCORPIO OVER 500GB.

    They all have freezing\stutter issues with the PS3.
    ps3haze - I love the fact that everyone has these grand ideas with no idea what they're talking about... I'm not saying that I've done anything, but I have a good understanding of the complexities involved.

    I know you specified 750GB, but i got a Samsung SpinPoint MT2 1TB from newegg for 110$ shipped to my house, and it was easy as hell to fit in, just had to cut the tray to fit it, and it worked great! Have my collection of 20 PS3 games on it, plus PSN content and PSone classics, still have 650gb left!

    What do you mean by but the tray? I currently have a samsung mp4 640 gig in it, but it fills up fast. Would like to get a 1TB if it didnt mean too much modding.

    Modding the tray was a real joke.

    I didn't had any dremmel disc left so i used a pair of wire cutter to cut it. If you want i can upload an image of how i did it. After that, the HDD sit nicely where it should, and the screw hold it fine. Mine's a slim PS3 by the way...

    Dammit, guess I should take this 750GB back and exchange it then. At least it's still sealed & untouched as I'm not at home right now.

    Thx for the heads up bro

    Hi guys, thanks for the answers. These two are the cheapest 750 GB I can find and I think I'll choose between them :

    Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD7500BPVT 750GB 5400 ---> 89.99 $
    Seagate Momentus ST9750420AS 750GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache --> 99.99 $

    From what I've read in other threads, The WD drive can be patched with wdidle3 to make it usable (no stuttering) in PS3 ?? and the seagate model can be fixed with a jumper to make it SATA1 ?? (I'm not very sure about this)

    I'd like to go for the cheaper one (WD) but I've seen a lot of people having stuttering with WD HDDs. Any suggestions??

    EDIT : I'm quite worried about the heat in 7200rpm model too. Some people say it's very hot inside the PS3

    I've had mine for over 6 months and have never had a problem. In fact, I've never had a problem with ANY WD hard drive.

    I have the 750 GB Scorpio Blue and it works like a charm. Over 300 GB of stuff on it (20+ retail games) and Ive not had one issue with it at all.

    However, in respect to externals, the My Book series sucks with the PS3. Even properly formatted and the "image" thing removed, it has big time stuttering.
