HI,
Can someone help??
I am running FW 3.55 kmeaw on my PS3 with multiman installed. I have backed up one of game to test and everything worked perfectly. But recently I tried Virtual Tennis and I was getting a message that I need to update the FW to 3.62 (i think) which I said no and I could not play the game. Should I update multiman or am I supposed to load the game another way. Im trying to get my head around this but not very good.

neither - whichever game is asking you to update the fw say no again then when it kicks you back to the xmb go to the very top - 'game data install'
delete the installed data for the game then re-start it.... job done
if you can remember which update it was.... lets say 1.03 then go to brewology (google it) and get the update before it (1.02), install that then just dont update that game again

gran turismo has a similar issue if you try to update it past 1.09
EDIT:
I started this a while back and was going to update it but there wasnt enough people interested so stopped but if you have any of the games on there you'll see similar problems....

why would I need to update it???
Sorry for the stupid questions but Im trying to get my head around this.
no worries, you dont have to update it at all if you dont want to
was just saying that if you wanted the most updated version of your game (some updates contain dlc, extra characters, maps, modes etc) that doesnt ask you to update the fw on your ps3 then you could get the one before the one that causes the problem

and of course i meant 'game update' not ps3 update (you'll lose cfw if you go pass 3.55 at the minute)
and also only delete your 'game data' not 'saved data' obviously
EDIT:
also, should have said, if you check in multiman and go through your games it'll tell you the req fw version for updates installed which will let you know which game is the problem ;)
EDIT 2:
also, some games - for example la noire, wont work after a straight rip, though update 1.01 fixes it by not being encrypted with 3.60 then update 1.02 is again - so that one needs to have the first applied (think theres about 3 games like that ;)

Right im now in front of the ps3 and this is what i am doing and this is the message I get:
1) I have put a disk in the ps3 of another game
2) I go into multiman with my external HD connected.
3) once in multiman virtual tennis is showing but when I press to load game I get the following message "the system software of your ps3 system is version 3.55. To start you must update to version 3,56 or later. Do you want to update now?" I obviously hit no, at which point I am back at the main ps3 screen and the disk is showing as virtual tennis 4 and I get the same message when I try and load.
4) I cant find the "game data install" in the menu, just game data utility which I deleted something of another game but still does not work.
Please help mate???
ok 2 quick points
1. erm, take it real slowly and re-read what it says - if it says when you select virtua tennis from mm
clicking square should show version 1.00 that requires 3.55/3.60
"your system is 3.55, this game requires 3.56 do you want multiman to change the param sfo?"
(or something very similar - eg let multiman edit the sfo)
click yes, multiman would never ask you to update your actual fw (the game would after you try to boot it from xmb, but mm wouldnt as you're not 'technically' booting it from there)
that'll fix it
then boot from xmb and it'll say install game data (3117mb of free space req)
... i just checked that bit
click yes again

but yeah, sorry, its 'game data utility(ps3)', i keep calling it game data install because when you install an update thats where it goes, lol, sorry
if you go into 'game data utility' (thats for updates etc make sure its not 'saved data utility (ps3)' - thats obviously your saves and you dont want to delete those)
delete the virtua tennis part(s)
they can range from game to game anywhere between about 30mb for an update to 8gb for a full install so just delete what is there for that game
then go back to multiman and press square on the game (virtua tennis) and at the top left it should say the game, version and fw needed
if it says 3.56 there then you can load it and allow multiman to change it to 3.55 for you - if its not that try your other games with the same method
(square on the game, check fw, any with above 3.55 make a note, delete their corresponding 'game data' and do the same)
if you can get back to me quickly and its still not working i can still help you tonight (i've got about half hour before the missus wants to play dragon age, lol)

a 20mb or so GAME UPDATE is ok - 300mb or so SYSTEM SOFTWARE/UPDATE IS NOT
(doing this half from memory and half with ps3 in front of me so just trying to write down as much as i can here and dont want to be the cause of you updating)
you were right mate it was the message that multiman wants to change to pso or something. I clicked yes and went into the game. The game started loading up until the point of the ps3 move, then I got a error message which says "An error occured during the start operation (80010017) ?? have not got a clue what to do..............your a top man for helping me on this............
