i have been out of the game for a while and need some advice:
1) what are all these new loaders now with open, gaia, etc?
2) can i update my PIC18F2550 to play on psn?
3) what is the difference in all these payloads?
4) what is this psn spoofing thing all about?
thanks
oh yeah: im on an 80gb ps3 3.41 which i have already gotten all my backups on with the normal backup manager that originally came out

Hey i've just got into the scene and brought my first PS3 the other day, running 3.41 with 500gb hard drive.
I'm using PIC18F2550 aswell, i'm not sure about the old loader (Backup Manager?) but Gaia and Open Manager etc. let you boot your games etc from the hard drive.
You can update the PIC18F2550 the switch i use is to connect PIN17 and PIN19 which puts it in bootloader mode so you can flash the correct payload hex to it, this is what i have read here anyway maybe someone can correct me if i am wrong as i'm about to try it.
Not sure on the differences with all the payloads im using PL3 i think and will continue todo so.
I think the spoofing is makes your fw look like 3.50 when connecting to PSN.
I hope this answers your questions but as i said i'm new to the whole scene so still reading up on alot of stuff

so what is the difference between all the loaders then? Gaia, open manager, backup manager?
i bought the PIC18F2550 off ebay, i have no idea what pin 17 and 19 are, how would i update with new payloads?

Alright well then unless there is a switch on the stick to put it in bootloader mode to reprogram then you would need to take it apart or buy one of the other solutions available that are upgradable by plugging it in and out a few times.
You need to access the PIC18F chip inside if there is no switch and bridge pins 17 & 19

pin17 to 19 depends on the bootloader used.
my boards use this for bootloader support, but most manufacturers boards do not.
