A basic tutorial and a little help please..!

Hey everyone! I hope some people can give me a bit of guidance and some help! I'm tring to install some games from my external drive onto my internal dive, or just get them to work from the external drive. My BD is nackered so copying the origional games from the disk is out of the question and none of my mates have PS3's with the correct firmware on! Arrggghhh!! The only alternative I have is to aquire the games from other sources. I know some of you are going to grumble and throw the "P" word about but there are some people in this situation who genuinely need some help!!!

Ok so I have a minimum AVR flashed with Teensi 1.1 (red and green light) and also the no BD hex (just green light) and I'm using both BM2 and Open manager. I understand that with the BM2 I would need to ftp the files from my pc. Using the open manager is it possible to aquire game files and run them directly from the external without the need for ftp'ing them over?

I'm not just blindly asking for someone to hold my hand through the entire process. I'v managed to get to the point where I copied the folder with the correct files in (I forgot the file extention names .pk.. and another). Loading BM1 up I go to the homebrew option and can see the game, see the image of the game in the right hand side but when activating it just crashes or boots to dash.

I may have done something wrong / got a step wrong ect ect. Could someone possibly write up a quick step by step guide / tutorial for those of us the are struggling with this please. It would be a massive help and MUCH appreciated as I feel like tearing my hair out right now!!!! Thanks.

Tell me, which game are you currently testing out? I understand you are using BM2 without a disc... and it crashes for you?

This may be a simple compatibility issue. The game you are trying out might simply not work from either external with no disc or internal with disc... but work with a disc!

There used to be a google spreadsheet that showed us what games worked and with/without disc. Google took it down. There is this site however : http://www.psjcl.com/ but its not fully up to date/accurate at the moment (e.g. doesn't show clearly if disc is needed or not).

I'm trying to get red dead redemption running. Still no joy.. admittedly I haven't had time to play around with the console yet. Going to give it a bash tonight though!

I'm not sure I'm doing it correctly though. I copied the files directly from the pc to an external HDD and put them in the homebrew folder. The files were all in the folders and open manager would not recognise their existance at all! I then found out I have to have the folder with the .eboot and . pk(something) in the in the homebrew folder itself. So I moved the folder with those files, USB(something) into the homebrew folder. There are other folders like "trophies" and such in the folder where the USB one was as well if it helps give you a picture of the folder layout. (Wow, I really like to use the word folder!!)

Ok. So now open manager finds the files. It shows up in the homebrew section of open manager and has a picture of the game on the right hand side. I go to launch and it either boots me back to the dash or locks up with a black screen. If I book to dash the disk does not show up with the backup game if there is no disk in the drive and if I put a disk in it shows the game on the disk, not the back up.

Now the problem I have is that I'm not sure if the game files I aquired are dud ones or I am setting everything up correctly. Couple of questions..

1) Can I run games directly from the external HDD that have been transferred by connecting the drive to the pc?

2)Do I need to FTP the files through open manager from my pc to my internal / external?

3) are the game files I'm trying to boot the correct ones? (The folder I move has around 99% of the games volume in it so I'm assuming it is and the other folders in the root are ones like trophies which probably arn't needed)

The easiest way that I know of is just to connect your external drive to your pc and FTP them over to your PS3. It doesnt take long to do. If the game still doesnt work you have corrupted/missing files or the game is not compatible.

Open manager should let you play from a external hdd as long as its compatable. Open manager will also let you copy for External to Internal HDD.

Quick question have you played any backups yet? The reason why i ask, maybe you have the non patched version of the JB

Red dead redemption won't work on external hdd, that's why you are black screening/freezing.
