Are Backup managers really the way to go?
Are Backup managers really the way to go? –
Is it just me or are backup managers really not the way to go. I think we had better compatibility with the Eboot - PSN method where we could just load the game from the XMB. They worked on geohots MFW and all the games I tried worked perfectly(minus updates, I know someone is going to shout about this). I really think we are just circling the same dead animal that we were with 3.41 JB. We just need a "real" program that can take virtually any eboot and modify it with one or two button presses to make it easy to use and we would virtually have 100% compatibility. We also wouldn't need to come up with 40 new versions of LV2 patcher. When I had my PSP, the CFW on there didn't use a backup manager and neither should the PS3 at this point. Surely I can't be the only one that thinks Backup Managers are outdated.
I might be missing something.. but what problems are people even having with the backup managers?
They've run everything i've thrown at them.. no modifed eboots needed.. literally rip the disc or ftp over and load it..
Plus all the updates work perfectly.
i don't see what the big fuss is..
But the compatibility is still around 85 - 90%, with the PSN method, it is 100%. We would be able to play all of the games that would otherwise black-screen or freeze under a backup manager.
Im just curious.. and bare in mind i only bought a p3 very recently and went to kmeaw cfw..
What do you mean by the PSN method (i assume you mean being on 3.55) and what games don't work? Is there a list?
I've tried all the latest ones and they are all perfect under Rogero 7.8 and now 7.9
PSN method is like making the eboot install as a .pkg and then you copy over your game files to the folder it creates. Most of the newer games are working, it is some older games that aren't. Like Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, Tomb Raider Underworld to name a couple. But the point is, I would be able to just start my PS3, go to the games tab and just press X on the game I want to play. I don't have to open a backup manager, pick the game, wait for it to return to XMB, then depending on what MFW you are using, use the LV2 patch and then start the game and hope it works without freezing.
PSN method is 100%? GT5 never worked, neither did RDR, or MGS4. And those where the only games I wanted to play.
I agree thAt the Bm are better now with the current 3.55 cfw as you have online access, but wait until sony updates the fw and we are going to be in trouble, no psn access, with the psn method you can run the games from the xmb even on the ofw. I tried the patched games on the ofw 3.55 and worked pefectly, the proble would be updates and waiting for the patched eboot
OP it's not a matter of choice at the moment. Nobody has sorted out a way to load game folders from the XMB in a reliable non messy way. That time will come and it will be exactly like it is on the PSP in due course...how long?...who knows, probs a 3-6 months before everything is settled and people are all on the same page etc.
PSN method is more like 50% for me and backup seems around 95ish% and plus some games are a pain to setup for it, not really worth it. The best method is to use backup manager and PSN for games that dont work on backup. for example, venetica, tomb raider, etc. The thing that really sucks about psn method vs backup is that you cannot download updates. Even if you dont play online its still nice to have the latest version on some games.
