Agreed on all points.

Not only have they not kept their promises about timing, but to my knowledge they have still not delivered a single unit to the retailers (apart from initial samples). They now say that the goods are on the way, but we've no more reason to believe that now than their many promises that they would send the stuff 'tomorrow', repeated day after day...
That said, I'm still waiting for my supplier to get their shipment, and still plan to buy the unit I ordered from them. Regardless of support and regardless of any promises by the makers of it (which I don't take very seriously), I still want this unit for its historical value.
Whatever else we say about it, this has changed history for the PS3
(and even for this site, with new online user records every day).
----- re: ToxicOS 'beaten' by OPL
Indeed it did, and anyone now expecting fabulous PS3 homebrews overnight will be sorely disappointed.
Only it took a little while
This will take a lot of time, since none of us are as yet familiar with coding for this platform, except perhaps for those who worked with OtherOS Linux, and that is in fact an entirely different platform than a PS3 without a Linux OS. Many sources produced by them intended for programs to run under Linux will be virtually useless without the OS support functions used in their programming, and it will take a long time to come up with working homebrew replacements for all of those.
Still, the Linux stuff is one of the main sources of both valid and legal programming info and examples for the PS3, so I think we will all be studying that stuff quite a lot in times ahead.

i don't think they meant that the backup manager will only work with their original units. i think what they meant was that the new update to the usb dongle will only work with theirs. they mention that the backup manager will be released on the 15th, and that the update/solution will be released within 7 days 'as well'.
In a perfect world yeah maybe... in a perfect world Sony woulda allowed homebrew from the start.

Im a business owner & I offer a service.. I charge big dollars! Why?
1) Im good at what I do
2) I decide what my time/sweat is worth
3) I provide a better quality job than the cheaper competition
4) Most importantly.. because I can.. people pay so why shouldnt I charge?
I have lost customers to cheaper competition.. on average 50% have come back to me though.
Can you honestly say that kudos from a 15yr old on the net compares to literally hundreds of thousands of dollars in your hand?
You could buy a 15yr old to brown nose you with that kinda money!

Reason: cunt spell
Oh dude don't get me wrong, If I had the knowledge I'd probably try whole step 1, step 2, ??????, profit thing myself. But based on my experience in the PSP scene, it's all about open source and letting people in on the action at little or ideally no cost at all.

Of course this situation is different. The PSJB guys haven't stolen anyone elses code. Although one could argue that since it's based off Geohot's research earlier this year that what they did was immoral.
So yes, stream of consciousness over. May the debate continue
i wonder what enhancements they did in BM v1.1
