Backup Manager - Serious glitches
Backup Manager - Serious glitches –
09-06-2010,01:15 PM
Today I finally received my AT90USB and successfully flashed it to use with my PS3. With backup manager being the only native homebrew available I of course installed it. I thought I would first test the games I had that were not yet available on compatibility lists, thus doing my little bit for the scene. The results were… Well, extremely unusual! I haven’t read glitches of this kind with backup manager so I thought I would share it to see if anyone can offer any insight or none the less more information for the compatibility list.
The game I backed up was Mortal Kombat VS DC Universe and it took just over an hour backing up to a 5200RPM 2TB external drive. The game backed up 100% and was ready to select, I then launched it through the XMB and all seemed to be going well…
I don’t know if anyone here has played the game, I can only assume you have but here is the list of glitches I encountered.
- No special moves work in game – For example subzero can’t do freeze attack etc.
- No fatality moves work in game
- Selecting MK Story mode jumps to play ending scene then back to the menu – Also unlocks the appropriate hidden characters.
- Selecting DCU Story mode jumps to play ending scene then starts the DCU Story mode.
- Red artefacts appear while fighting in game.
I couldn’t find any more glitches other than those listed above; the game can be fully navigated and has no hanging issues, lag or crashes.
The game was backed up with no prior data on the PS3 hard drive such as game installs and save data.
Odd glitches I am sure you will agree, has anyone else had experience with these type of glitches (in game) while using backup manager?

i have a suspicion that some games might actually have some extra checks that cripple the gameplay if failed.
or it's a failed backup.

i agree. this has been seen in psx games too i believe, not sure.
and here is a quote from ppl using the backup manager.
Important:
~~~~~~~
We have done extensive testing. We ripped them atleast twice
on 2 different Consoles and crc compared both rips. It occasionally happened,
that crc's and number of files were different. We blame that partly on the early
stage of Backup Manager, but also on the fat32 filesytem.
So be sure your own private rips are working properly -
Some games won't start if you have old gamedata on your console. So delete
that if neccessary!
some games don't work right with external storage
try internal storage
Do you think the development team would really think that far ahead? The game is mounted on the virtual BD-Rom, so other than game ID checks I can’t imagine what checks they could implement to cause such erratic behaviour, so I may try modifying the ID. However I can see it being a bad backup rather than additional security checks, hopefully tomorrow will tell.
As regards to external storage, I thought the only issue was the FAT32 file limitation which none of the game files exceed so surely it wouldn’t make a difference?
Well I will try an internal back up tomorrow and perhaps another external backup to see if the results differ. Thanks people!
try internal backup first it's faster and more reliable =)
id delete anything to do with the game from your hard drive, or even doing a complete system restore and then rip it to the internal hard drive and try running it see what happens...
