I did a lot of searching around but couldn't see this asked before, so here it is:

I installed backup manager after running the PSFreedom off of my HTC G1, when I plugged in my external hard drive, for some reason, the USB plug produced a spark when it touched the PS3's usb port and my tv screen kinda flickered a bit. I freaked out a bit thinking that I had fried my PS3 but everything seemed to work OK and it didn't shut down or reboot. So I started backing up a disk to my external hard drive, but then the PS3 would have weird screen artifacts on the screen and would sometimes flicker, as the progress bar got more into the later stages of ripping, the flickering would get worse. So I just switched the input of my TV to a regular tv channel while the disk backed up. Once the ripping was done, the screen went back to normal on the PS3, no more flickering, I ran the game off from the external drive and it worked fine, ran a game disk and it was fine too. So aside from freaking out because of the USB port short/sparks, is it normal for the PS3 to have screen artifacts and flickering while ripping a disk with Backup Manager? If it matters any, I'm using an HDMI cable to my TV and the PS3 has never had this display issue before.

I've never experienced this, so imo no, it's not normal

I know this is a bit of a stretch, but I now have the following theory:

Because I was running Backup Manager at the time the USB plug shorted out, maybe that caused the code for Backup Manager to get "corrupted" and now causes the PS3 to have artifacts/flickering? It sounds a bit crazy and probably is, but it's my best guess for now.
