sooner or later i will need to upgrade the internal hd on my jailbroken 120 gb ps3 slim. will i be able to restore everything and have it working correctly if i use the xmb backup utility to create the backup? i rather not backup games to an external hd because some jailbroken games work only when copied into the internal hd.

    thanks in advance

Its not as simple as backing up games. Alot of protection to stop people from just copying stuff over. Like you cant just use same hdd in 2 consoles. Be a while before backing up everything can be done.

I figured just FTP the backups, then delete the homebrew, and then run backup/restore like normal.

i was thinking about this the other day too cause im gonna upgrade my hdd sometime too

    1. i know it sucks but delete the games off the internal hdd (just the games)
    2. delete the homebrew stuff (that takes like a min. anyway to put the .pkg back on there)
    3. backup now using the backup utility....i just want to be able to use my game saves and stuff...also i figure if you have all them games on you hdd and use the backup utitilty it would take forever to do...if it would even do that...but i have no clue cause i have never done it but thats what i would think

wow! that kinda sucks. fortunately, i successfully copied only one game from a disc that i own.

it looks like i wont be copying any more games until i upgrade my hd.

I've just installed a new HDD into my old PS3 and did the normal Backup via SystemMenu.
It copied, everything as far as I can say. So if you just Plan to switch the HDD you can try it like this, if you want so switch the whole Console there is another Option in SystemMenu but I don't know if this works.

And yes Backup's and Savegames and BU-Manager ..... where backuped too

I posted about this very thing the other day, the problem i have is that i have purchased loads from psn and if I do the backup/restore from the xmb then it will require me to go online to get access to the dlc games.

I was wondering if I was to do a full backup of the hdd and when inserting the new one, format etc. as per the usual routine and then restore from ftp. I want to know if this will allow me to use the games I own from psn on the new hdd.

Someone pointed me to a thread about playing psn games without the purchase via debug updates, however this is limited to a few older games

HERE (replacing ps3 hard drive using ftp app to transfer data) is the original thread I started
