AT90USB162: cannot flash it
AT90USB162: cannot flash it –
10-27-2010,10:10 AM
I have this psjailbreak clone from r4king. After opening the shell, I can see that it is an ATMEL AT90USB162 chip. Now, I'm trying FLIP to flash it with say hermes v4b but it just doesn't work. It fails everytime at verify stage with error code 0x0002E. I tried doing it one step at a time but then 'blank check' stage fails with error code 0x00000E. does anyone knows what is wrong here? how can i flash it to new hex? Please help.

I believe you need to delete the contents of the atmel via flip, it will then program and verify with no problems.

I have tried doing that as well. I'm using FLIP 3.4.2. Erase operation completes successfully. However, when i try to perform 'Blank check' it fails with error code 0x00000E. Is there any other way to erase the chip, so it can be re-programmed?

click the chip icon
choose AT90USB162
click "File" at the top and choose "Load Hex File"
browse to your hex file of choice
click the second image "USB cord" choose USB
Check all but "Blank Check"
Uncheck the 'Blank Check" and click "run" at the bottom. It should over-write the hex that's there. You don't have to do anything else. Your devise should be ready. You don't have to hit start application or anything else.
Should work.

You should be using this hex: "psgroove_teensy_at90usb162_16mhz_firmware_3_41.he x", that's for Teensy 1.0
Make sure that under windows device manager you are actually seeing the chip. If you got both right, your are good to go.
In FLIP:
- select your chip by clicking the chip icon
- click the cable icon and select USB
- click open
- press Ctrl+L to select the hex file
- check "erase", "program", "verify"
- click run
Program should be done in seconds.

ChokeD and Zoloco, thanks for responding. However, I'm using the suggested flash with exact same proceedures. Still no luck. I don't know what is wrong. I bought 2 of these from r4king and cannot flash any of them. I've opened the shell and taken the chip out to confirm that it is indeed an atmel at90usb162.
I read somewhere about shorting the pins for pic devices. would this work on mine? how would i do that, if that works?

I had a very similar problem, for me I was being lazy and not re-selecting the chip - I thought that even though it was already on the right one it would be fine but it wasn't.
Sorry if you have already done it but it was only cause that was what I found.

Try this:
Project0 » PSGroove-Maker
Select Source: PSGroove Hermes v4b (final)
or PSGroove KaKaRoTo PL3
Click Next
Use predefined Boards: Teensy 1.0
CPU: AT90USB162
Click Build
Save the hex file and try it with Flip.
