woke up this morning to a frozen xmb after trying AC last night in discless mode.
these steps fixed it!
1) safe mode, Restore File system
2) Let Ps3 boot up, choose video mode, it repairs file system (will still freeze at xmb)
3) Safe mode again, rebuild database
4) PS3 boot, choose video mode, let it rebuild DB
5) all working!

But i have already formatted my drive and this method didn't help.
I have finally fixed my problem:
*Reset my PS3 through removing CMOS battery
*Formatted my hard filling it with zeros / in Linux /![]()
i solved it by getting to service mode and then format my hdd while still in service mod
Hello,
accidently my internal 500GB HDD started making "clicking sounds" and sometimes the XMB loses it's icons ...
I already used the Recovery-Mode for Rebuilding the Files-structure and the Data-Bases as well ... but that only helps temporrarily.
So i wondered if it would be helplfull to format that drive with the PS3's "format utility" and restore everything back to factory-settings to regain full and reliable functionality again ?
And after studying the forum even more :
Could the corrupted HDD have something to do with AC Brotherhood ?
The "spinning Icons" in my XMB point to that as a possible source of trouble ...
Would formatting the help HDD at all ? I've already used the recovery-methods as mentioned above .. .but that was no permanent fix ;(
Is my HDD now ready for the trash-bin ?
if its making a clicking noise, most likely it is gone bad.
You maybe able to get warranty replacement. Check the manufacture website. You may have to do some testing before you send it in.
My XMB just started freezing![]()
I've tried service mode but it can't fix the file system and prompts me to format...
Is there any other way to fix this? I lost all my saves about 6 months ago, and I don't really want to lose everything again ><
You have to rebuild the database. This will not delete any saves.
Also you have to use a disc (any disc) when playing the game or it will keep doing this.
Rebuild fails, & file system fix fails. Can't do much at the moment.
Has there / will there be any homebrew which can mount the PS3 HDD on your PC?
Or do we still not have the necessary knowledge to decrypt the PS3 File System?
