Apologies for the n00b question... –

Hello,
first of all its nice to be here, been reading this forum for a while and im looking forward to helping the progression of the ps3 scene.
Ill admit i am a n00b when it comes to ps3 jailbreaking, ill be honest and say id need a tutorial if i was to ever attemp to jailbreak a ps3. I however did spend alot of time looking up on hacking the ps2/psp/360 etc, and from the past i know i pick up things quite quickly.
Now for the n00bish part (promise ill get better soon)..
if i was to buy a PSJailbreak to use to downgrade my PS3 (fw 3.50),
could i then use that same dongle to jailbreak and have the PL3 fw spoofing etc?
Thanks

Yes, u can use the same dongle for downgrading and jailbreaking…HOWEVER, I do think you are restricted to PSJailbreak's firmwares? I could be wrong…spoofing doesn't do any good since Sony killed the PSN "hack" for 3.41 users…PL3 is the one that I use and has worked for everything (except the games that do not work of course)
I am sorry I couldn't TOTALLY answer your question..but, I did my best...

You can't flash your own files to the PSJB dongles. To date, they've never released an updated payload (just a downgrader). IMO you're better off buying the downgrader (if you can't wait for the open source solution that is days - a couple weeks away) and another device that you can flash your own payloads to. Whether it be a iPod, Sansa, HTC device, dev board, or clone device.

Ok ok thanks,
i knew already that you use the same dongle for the jailbreak and the downgrade,
and spoofing to 3.50 would mean i cud play like gt5 or other games that require that fw right? im not too bothered about PSN i dont use it all that much really.
Ive been reading over the PSGrade thread and if hamsi manages to get this key im thinking of maybe getting a P3Go and going that way.
Being a total n00b aswell when you say you can only use PSJailbreak firmwares im guessing that means i couldnt load in like the PSGroove with payload etc "hex" (right word?) into it?
Sorry sorry, i will hopefully start talking more sense, just trying to get to gribs still haha
EDIT: @chesh: i thought that would be the case, i am willing to wait it will probably be around christmas time, when i see how much student loan ive got left that ill be buying what i need.
I own a iPhone 3GS but i dont think they're compitable right? Remember speaking to someone who was porting the code over to it and said they were having voltage problems or something.. no idea really :S

You will not be able to play GT5, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, Splatterhouse until further notice…all these games have 3.50 keys and haven't been figured out yet

see.. i dont even know what that means!! (..yet xD )
so what do these 3.50 spoof things actually do then?
...man this is soo confusing, we need a textbook for ps3, think thats why i cud do 360's haha

3.50 spoof was just an added precaution from Sony figuring out we were playing JB consoles online. It doesn't actually do anything for compatibility of games. Right now, the PSN/3.50 spoof payloads are pointless as Sony has blocked the access now. You're better off using Hermes v4b or the newest version of PL3 (whatever works best for you).
And, yes, I believe you're right, the 3GS can't be used.

Right ok thanks.. i was thinking the 3.50 spoof helped game compatability..my bad,
now before i piss to many people off with my questions is there any like big thread/tutorial i can read thru which goes thru the process of jailbreaking, programming the dongle, installing hermes v4b/PL3 etc etc?

iPod Mini 1G
iPod Mini 2G
iPod 4G Grayscale
iPod 4G Color\Photo
iPod Nano 1G
iPod Video 5G\5.5G
iPod Touch 1G
iPhone 2G
iPhone 3G
Those are supported apple products (no, the Nano 2G wasn't left out purposely, for some reason or another, its not compatible)
You can also use Android devices, development boards (Teensy 2.0 and other devices…), TI-84+/Silver Edition, TI-89, Sansa e200, and a ham-sandwhich…..

Well, flashing a dongle is all dependant of what type of device you have. But, there is a good tutorial / videos under a thread called the PSJailbreak FAQ that is stickied in one of the forums here. I believe it's in the General Jailbreak section, but you may need to look in the other threads for it.
