Not a prob. A lot has changed in the last couple of weeks. I couldn't imagine what it would feel like being part of it when it first game out in Aug/Sept of last year, and then all of a sudden see all this CFW stuff without paying attention to the inbetween. It's been a different story every day!
One other thing. I just downgraded back to 3.41 and entered recovery mode and selected update ps3 systems from the menu. It tells me I can upgrade to any software version three point five six or later?
Ahh, so what you need to do first is downgrade to something that is lower then 3.41 but greater then or equal to the firmware that came with your console (3.40, 3.20, 3.15, etc) with service mode. Then upgrade to 3.55 OFW via normal XMB USB upgrade method. Then follow that tutorial
Service Mode huh? That might be the problem why your still getting that RSOD.
If you want CFW on your console. Just take away your doongle and keep it on a safe place, since you wont be using that again, unless you want to downgrade.
Download the Update file from Sony HQ; and use that fw to upgrade your console to 3.55. Once your in 3.55, patch your downloaded update file with the custom one, then enter to recovery mode. Use the custom firmware you patched earlier and wait till the process done.(it should take a while on 256MB NAND consoles). Whoala, CFW. Its not that hard really.
I got up and going. Backups and everything....Thanks for all the help.
I don't know why people are even using recovery mode.
I went from OFW 3.41 -> OFW 3.55 -> CFW Wutu 3.55 -> CFW Geohot 3.55 -> OFW 3.55 -> CFW kmeaw 3.55.
I did ALL of those updates via the "system update" in the settings menu. Why is there a need for using recovery mode?
