Hi iv got a ps3 slim running 3.50 fw and have backed this system up to my external hdd.
Will restoring this firware on my ps3 phat running 3.41 cause the firmware to be automatically updated or overwritten?
You can't downgrade atm. DOT
I read that 3 times and have no idea what you're asking.
Are you trying to downgrade the Slim with the Fat? That certainly won't work if so.
No, no im not trying to downgrade, i use my phat thats running 3.41 fw as my jailbroken ps3 so to speak and i want all my data from my slim to be transferred to the phat without losing my 3.41 fw (game saves, game data etc).
The slim is running fw 3.50 and i still use this for online play.
Hope that clears it up
Aha, it should work.
Just give it a try, it won't sneak any update on you, if it needs to it will ask your permission to do so first and tell you to insert a usb stick with the firmware on, just say no and you'll be safe if it does that.
So as far as you know the data backup utility doesn't store any part of the firmware during the backup, just the users data?
Just that i read somewhere that a lot of the ps3 data is overwritten during a restore
Why not just copy these to a thumbdrive using the native memory manager? I wouldn't suggest a backup/restore.

Use the backup tool in the XMB under System
