Am Still On OFW 3.41 - Dilemma - need expert advice please

Dear All,

I guess you can call me a complete Virgin when it comes to jail-breaking my PS3. I have been reading these forums for quite a while now and I am finding it quite difficult to make a decision on where to go from here. My son has just been telling me to grow some balls and make a decision.

My questions are; is there any benefit to staying on v 3.41 and if so what custom firmware would you recommend- I was thinking code name rebug 3.41.3? but does this have exactly the same functionality and benefits as rebug 3.55.2? Would you use Multiman in combination with this custom firmware.

Otherwise should I just simply upgrade to 3.55 and install KMEAW like the majority of users.

I am sorry if this has been discussed before but I know that there are not too many people left in my predicament who are still on OFW 3.41. I guess I have been saving myself for that "special custom firmware".

in your case i would go with a 3.55 cfw as i don't see any advantage that 3.41 has over 3.55. but i have never used any 3.41cfw/mfw other than with the first jailbreak dongles. also i believe that 3.55 has better game compatabilty than 3.41 and yes i would recommend multiman

Yes unless you know of any advantages that 3.41 has, i would recommend you upgrade to either kmeaw or rebug 3.55 cfw

i have also been waiting for that "special custom firmware" but i guess its still gonna take a while. should you be interested in new games i would recommend also purchasing a true blue or similar dongle to play games that you normally can't on 3.55

no benefit whatsoever to staying on 3.41 but if you're unsure you can always downgrade with the debug update setting in Rebug firmware or QA flagging. The option is there. Go ahead and bite the bullet and install 3.55 official, then 3.55 custom. Rebug firmware 3.55.2 with the .6 update is the most ready to go out of the box firmware. Codename: REBUG

I recommend Rebug 3.55.6 too... (With lateset multiMan and BDEMU2.pkg)
Think Kmeaw and add some changes, if you are learn the advantages you never wanna change.
Also, if you decided to upgrade your FW to 3.55, you need original eboot files for each game.
Most of your games (on below 3.41) doesn't need them, cause they are not patched for 3.41.
But if you have a games wanting 3.41+, they are probably patched for 3.41 and they not work on 3.55.

he said it was 3.41 official so no issue with those old 3.41 patches

What I would really like to know is there a difference btw rebug 3.41 and rebug 3.55? I am leaning towards rebug because of its ability to disable cinavia. I love my movies.

As far as I am aware it is the only cfw that has this benefit. Correct me if i am wrong.

Go for 3.55.2 rebug with the .6 update. It is the most complete and most compatible firmware out there. if you go with 3.41 you'll have to find dozens of patches for your games and will have trouble when you decide to get Cobra or TB dongles. Everything is aimed at 3.55 these days

I will bite the bullet and update to 3.55.

I see that you have been very helpful to a lot of people trying to educate themselves in the scene. Its refreshing to see that there are people out there who are still patient and not condescending in their responses...keep it up mate!

I am in the same boat as the original poster. I have been out of touch with the scene for about a year and need some advice. I am currently on 3.41 with a dongle. I have been scimming through the site to see what has changed and I am a little overwhelmed. I did see some mention of PS3Ultimate. Is that a better way to go? Getting rid of Cinavia is important to me. I also have a bunch of games on my HDD which I believe were patched for 3.41, some of which I played and some that I have not. Will it be a huge pain in the a** to patch them for 3.55? If someone could please point me in the right direction for files and basic how-to's it would be greatly appreciated. Would also like to add that I recall no need for a disc in the drive with 3.41, is that the case with 3.55?
