Am I wrong to hope for a nuclear response to Sony?

By nuclear response, I mean a FULLY JAILBROKEN FIRMWARE. I'll assume it comes from a "totally anonymous hacker" in Outer Mongolia, untouchable by any legal authority Sony might be able to coerce into action.

It's time for hackers to take off the kid gloves and get down to business. GeoHot can keep his public anti-piracy stand. It would just be nice if someone "else" with his knowledge helped in the effort to release an uncrippled patch for 3.55.

I'm not someone that has the knowledge but... what do you mean by "fully jailbroken" here?

Off the top of my head I'm guessing -

Way to install and run unsigned code
Way to run games with BD_DVD emulated or spoofed
Full PSN Access
Control over data sent to Sony, particularly the list of stuff that's been run
Way to copy off any movies downloaded through netflix or PSN store in a non-DRM format

... err, what else is there?

Let's wait and see, but one of the most stupid things in the world is to piss the people off, who could really harm you.

At this point are only fragments out - let's wait some days and see, if somewhere on the net an anonymous source release a tutorial how to make workable blu-ray copies for the chinese black market.

I hope sony loses hard on this one because neither geo or fail actually did anything illegal. They just released keys. What people choose to do with them is another story...Its like saying that because I bought a car, I should go to jail for manslaughter because I could run over someone with it.
