If you are using KMEAW 3.55 there is no reason to remove the game. Remember you dont have to press power eject anymore.

Incidentally, I have assumed the Move/Motion controllers remain fully functional. Any comments on this?
The move demo disk works perfect, that's the one I use.. Yeah move works perfect also.

If I stick to the external option, I would be able to do any remove/replace maintenance by plugging the drive back into my PC's USB port.
Game load times would, I'm sure, be affected by running from external rather than internal HDD, but how badly please?
Also, does Gaia offer drive destination options when making a backup from an original game?
I'll say it again, excellent support - thank you all.
Yes to all of the above, also GAIA has a built in FTP client.
The loading times from an external drive via usb are slower, but not by much... you do also occasionally get stuttering on videos within the game ie Uncharted 2, but it depends on the game really.

And you can't eject the disc without booting the ps3...

If you are ripping your OWN originals to the internal harddrive you do not need the FTP agent. The FTP agent or option is needed if you say downloaded a game from somewhere and wanted to install it to your internal harddrive....that subject is taboo as it is piracy.
