Advice? 60gbBC w/FW1.41 worth3hundred? –
I want another PS3 to JB so I can finally update my current one (still on 3.41, but not jb'd 40gb model). I have access to a launch backwards comp. 60gb model for $300 still on fw 3.40(owner was "pissed" about the damn sparkly sparkly's and vowed to not update anymore). It is finally 100% working order after three final returns to $onny for replacement/repair over the course of the first two years. 1:Is this a deasirable model to use for JB'ing? 2:Could I then also now or likely in the future run ps2 iso's from ext. or int. drive? 3:I can solder ANYTHING, read a schematic, and have an old breadboard from college for a DIY route. What is the best/cost effective option for me? How much flash memory is/will be needed? What's still available? I appreciate any knowledgeable responses...I've been researching for weeks now trying to catch up on things and am still overwhemled and learning, but finally ready to start. Please take the time to help a guy out?
Oh heck no...thats waaaaaaaay to much money!!! I bought my BC 40GB for only $150. Also...check the for sale section...heck I'm selling a brand new unopened PS3 120GB AND a brand new unopened, unflashed Minimus AVR USB Dev. board v1 for only $365 Shipped anywhere in US...so I would really say $300 is crazy...even look on ebay. Offer him $200 max!!

I am unaware of any 40gb BC(backwards compatible aka ps1/ps2) model.

IMO its better to have a new PS3 Slim, a PS2 Slim and PSOne if you want to play all systems. You stated that system has been back to Sony 3 times for repair...that would send me running the other way. Sounds like a lemon to me...he should have gotten a brand new (not refirb.) unit from Sony for all that hassle!
UPDATE: I just did some research as I wanted to see what you were talking about that 40GB's are not BC. After reading alittle I have to wonder now if the harddrive was replaced because it is not supposed to play PS2 games but mine does. I did buy it used and was told it had never be tampered with...maybe they didn't think replacing the harddrive fell under the tampering catagory. Very interesting indeed....wish they would have put atleast a 120GB in it...40GB is darn near worthless now days.
