Accessing external HD using FTP

Is it possible to access an external USB HD connected to the PS3 using ftp?

I have an external HD connected to my PS3, whats the best way to transfer files from my computer to that hd? I'd prefer doing it through the network if possible.

Just plug the external drive into your PC and transfer files that way ??

Install Blackb0x FTP Server v1.2 or use the built in one in most BM's. The file location for the external is dev_usb00 (could be 00-04 depending on which usb port it's plugged in to)

I have a server in my basement that I access remotely. It's easy for me to remote into my server from my laptop, then FTP into my external that is plugged in to the PS3.

Otherwise I would have to unplug the external drive, carry it down to the basement, plug it in to the desktop, transfer stuff, then unplug the drive, take it back upstairs, and plug it back in.

exactly, it's a hassle to unplug it. Which ftp servers for ps3 is better?
