There's probably an answer on here somewhere, but I've used the search facility and trawled through endless forum postings and can;t seem to find anything!

I'm currently OFW 3.56. I'm just wondering if there's any way to downgrade my PS3 to 3.55 so I can install the CFW?

I'm planning on switching hard drives in it soon, so thinking of doing this:

    1. Backup all current game data, saves etc
    2. Take out current 120gb hard drive in my PS3 Slim
    3. Replace with a 500gb+ hard drive
    4. Install 3.55 OFW
    5. Install 3.55 CFW
    6. Enjoy gaming

    Would this be possible?

Or, is there some kind of hardware memory on the PS3 outside of the hard drive that'll make it reject installing 3.55 on the new hard drive?

Or by backing up game saves etc, then trying to restore them on a 3.55 console (when they're currently on a 3.56 console), with that make them invalid? - this isn't so much of an issue as I only have saves for one or two games anyway

Simple and quick answer is no you can't. You are stuck on 3.56 until someone decides to work on 3.56. Do NOT attempt to downgrade you will be stuck in factory mode forever

OP you don't even deserve an answer.

You haven't searched for shit all!

Shouldn't have told him the 2nd bit. That'll teach some hard lessons on lazyness!

there was atleast two posts yesterday asking the very samething . your have to look for the post but did read a post yesterday about a possible way to downgrade but when i read it noone had tryed it. it used no modded files and something like doing a full restore so there was no risk if it didn't work. when you find it someone may have tryed it , but not at top of new post so dont think it works as someone would have tryed it by now would have thought.
someone beat me to it we'll i was writing .

I will go ahead and thank you sir, on behalf of the OP since 99% of them have 1 post and is asking for easy to find stuff, and when some one replies to him/her, they never return to say thank you, so there, thank you sir

    Indeed!

    Why are people so aggressive?!

I searched for "3.56", "downgrade 3.56" and "downgrading 3.56". Couldn't really find much I could make sense of after spending ages going through thread pages post often being taken over by people going off on a tangent about tech-speak (like NAND and NOR chips, eeprom, seeprom etc). Kind of hard to follow and keep interest if you have no understanding of what is being said!

I had seen the link above but as nobody has tried it and people in the thread are going on about whether that method works or not doesn't really answer my question about whether a downgrade i spossible, hence why I then posted the question.

I think some people forget everyone's a newbie to everything at some stage and automatically assume everyone has the same knowledge as themselves. If everyone had been such eejits and aggressive to you about anything you took an interest in your life at the beginning, you'd know sh*t all by now so some people would do good to remember that!

Thanks for the constructive and helpful replies anyway!
