From 3.55OFW -> 4.3xCFW
Just wondering before I go out and potentially spend $200+ on a PS3 what are the correct steps to getting it from 3.55OFW to 4.30CFW.
I've looked at a bunch of different threads and some say to install 3.55KMEAW first then install Rogero CEX 4.30
Others mention to just put the Rogero 4.30CFW on a flash drive and in the normal Update from USB in the XMB fashion install directly over 3.55OFW.
Just wanted to double check, one can never be to careful.
Yes I am also aware that I am going to have to get the PS3 downgraded with a hardware flasher first.
Also does anyone happen to have any WORKING download links to the Latest CFW.
Tried every one for the Rogero 4.30 CEX version with no luck.
This is the route I went...
From OFW 3.55 to kmeaw 3.55. Get toggle_QA pkg and run it. Then from kmeaw 3.55 to latest Rogero CFW.
It's recommended to do all firmware upgrades through the recovery menu as well, but I didn't and everything turned out fine.
You can get both 3.55 and 4.30 Rebug CFWs there. You can go from 3.55 OFW to 4.30 CFW just fine, It has the same risks as going from 3.55 OFW to 3.55 CFW to 3.55+ CFW so you might as well skip the updating to 3.55 CFW part. On Rebug 4.30.2 CFW you can enable QA Flag btw.
Antics, there was a discussion here about updating through recovery menu and I think we all came to the conclusion that If updating will brick your PS3, It does not matter If you do it through XMB or Recovery as none will avoid the brick. Updating through XMB isn't really updating through XMB to begin with, all you do is copy files to system while on XMB, then you go to the same screen as If you were updating through Recovery.
said, here's a guide to install Rebug 4.30.2 on top of OFW 3.55:
1- Install Rebug 4.30.2 from XMB:
Download Rebug 4.30.2 from Rebug's website, verify the md5 hash, rename the PUP to PS3UPDAT.PUP, put it on your FAT32 formatted flash drive in PS3\UPDATE, go to System Update and Update via Storage Media. Make sure there's NO original game disk in the drive and that you DON'T Update via Internet or else you would risk installing OFW higher than 3.55!
2- Install Rebug Update Package 0.2:
Download Rebug_Update_Package_0.2_4.30.x.pkg from Rebug's website, verify the md5 hash, install it from Package Manager, launch it under Games and follow the on screen prompts, the screen will freeze for a while when you select Yes, do NOT force shut down your PS3 at this stage or else you will get a nice and shiny RSOD! Just be patient and wait for it to finish what it's doing, it will reboot if needed when finished. Once the PS3 has rebooted, you can delete Rebug Update Package from your XMB as it is not needed anymore.
3- Enable QA and spoof to 4.41:
Install Rebug Toolbox from Package Manager, launch it under Games, go to Utilities and enable QA. This is to ensure easier and safer downgrading. Now go to Selector and change System Mode to Rebug, this will spoof to 4.41 to prevent accidental updates and allow PSN access. You can also change XMB Operation Mode to Retail and Debug Menu Type to CEX QA to ensure you have the Retail menus instead of the Debug menus which you probably won't need.
