There is a game on PSN that I've been wanting to play for a while now. It's online-only, so I will need to connected to play it.

I've had 3.55 CFW installed for a long time now, and I've been out of touch with the progress that has been made in CFW, but I'm assuming that I still can't play online without the possibility of getting a PSN ban. To avoid a ban, I'm wanting to know if I can install 4.31 OFW, purchase and play this game, and then install 4.3x Rogero (which seems to be the best CFW option) and maintain all of the customizability and features that I have with 3.55 CFW. Installing 3.55 OFW and upgrading to 4.31 OFW should be easy, but I don't know if I can install 4.3x Rogero after that.

Thoughts? Is it possible to do this?

Last time I looked through this stuff, we couldn't install over any 4.x OFW. I've looked around, but there's just SO much old and outdated information that I don't know where to start.

NO NO NO! So many questions of "Can I install 4.30 CFW over firmware higher than 3.55".

    No
    No
    No

For the 100000s time you can only install CFW over OFW which is 3.55 or lower. Install Rebug 4.30 right ontop of 3.55 CFW and it will work. Old information or not, this is answered almost on a daily basis. Why on earth would you want to update your OFW to begin with? It makes no sense. You won't get banned if you don't play Black Ops 2 online, or have multiman running while signed into PSN.

You can just update from 3.55 to 4.3X CFW and retain online and stuff, that's the only way.

Upgrading to newest OFW = Good bye CFW unless you have a donwgrader, but you can update to the latest CFW and it should be fine, look up for MiralaTijera CFW 4.31 ....

Don't use that CFW he said to lookup... 4.31 isn't needed to go on PSN. Use either Rebug's 4.30 or Rogero's 4.30. I would recommend Rebug though.

Indeed... Generally-speaking, you can flash whatever CFW you want as long as it's through recovery, regardless of what firmware you're on now. So you can go from 4.30 Rogero to 3.55 Kmeaw directly as long as you do it via recovery and QA flag is enabled.

Nonononono! Use Rogero's downgrader if you're going to do that.

Yeah that's the exception lol... Over the past few days, except for the Rogero downgrade scheme (4.30 > 4.30/3.55 hybrid > 3.55), I've gone directly from 4.31 and 4.30 to 3.55 and back.... It's been a mess trying to get OtherOS setup, hell I even tried that Mexican 4.31 CFW that actually works with MultiMan, it didn't used to... Anyway, Rogero provides very specific instructions for downgrading, OP should follow them, but in other instances, if he uses recovery to flash and QA flag is enabled, he should be fine.... Right? I was fine, was I just lucky?

Lucky or not it only takes an extra 10 or 20 minutes to downgrade using the downgrader. Don't be so incredibly lazy! Be safe!

Listen to this guy, OP I am pretty lazy haha... But like, Android ROM flashing, I can go from Android 4.2.2 to 4.1.1 to 4.0.4 without any special "downgrade firmware" or the like... I know the PS3 and Android phones are way different, but why do we have to go through all this to downgrade? To me it's like.. If I want to go back to Windows XP (not that I do), I have to Install Windows 7 "downgrade edition", then a special version of Windows XP, then the version of XP I actually want... So I look at the PS3 scenario, and I think "pshh why should I bother"... Has anyone bricked going willy-nilly with firmware like me... with the exception of Rogero, I was sure to follow instructions there?
