Just wondering if the 3.50 CFW is easily jailbreakable and if there is a good instruction guide for that procedure. What would a person need besides the PS3?

Unless I'm mistaken all you'd really need is a USB storage device, a 3.55 CFW PUP file and (optionally) a 3.55 OFW PUP file.
Update to 3.55 OFW first for maximum safety (though I went straight from 3.41 to CFW with no problems) then from there update to 3.55 CFW and enjoy the many possibilities in the world of homebrew.
That's the basic process as best I remember it, but you'd be wise to thoroughly investigate the different available CFWs and weigh up which one would be the best for you.
How do I update to 3.55 OFW? Is there a DETAILED guide with links? Sorry, I'm a newb. I do have a USB flash drive, though so I suppose I'm good hardware wise. Also good to know that it's not screwed like a 3.56 or higher would be.

But as chesh linked, that's the guide to follow. It really is straight forward. From experience, I'd suggest downloading the pack in the link, and doing system recovery mode > update 3.55 Official, then system recovery mode > update to 3.55 kmeaw
