3.41 Hermes v4 USERS READ!

Hermes 4 (backward) and PL3 does not tag along due the difference in the process elevation.
Basically, by an application standpoint: while in one of these method any fork propagates a "wrong" privileges.
And so, here born the issue. Who has corrupted who? the FTP Server? the Backup Manager? a little app which I don't recall the name?
Well.. all of em since who code had to exec those sys call to get access to something which is """locked""" away.

OP Perhaps it would be wise to wipe everything created by these application EG: Trophy, Save, Backup, Game data, ( if our target is a Backup Manager ) prior installing and/or updating to anything different from what your system is currently set.

But. I have been playing with 3.41 and Hermes for long time.
Then i went to WutangRZA+Geohot+lv2PKG(v1).. and all hell broke loose.
I lost game data, saves (backed up before, i smelled this coming And ended up formatting my disk after 5-10 hard freezes and reboots.. I figured, after that, everything should be nice & dandy.

But PL3 still messes up a few permissions during ftp, and i need to press L1 before i run any game with Multiman .13 (he has PL3 implemented in it, along with fix permissions). Other than that, it's fine.

So now, on-line works, we're on 3.55 and just need to fix perms each time. Big deal, i can live with that. The benefits outweigh the effort.

To OP: Keep all your stuff in /GAMEZ, goto 3.55 wutang and use latest multiman .13. Press L1 to fix each game, problem solved. (Maybe need to delete gamedata or re-download, but that's not a big deal.)

the problems your having arent so much with pl3, its the implementation of pl3 currently. pl3 for jailbreak worked great. it didnt have as much compatibility as hermes but it also never once caused a true file permission problem. all file permission problems stemmed from people who used hermes prior. there was a push or two on pl3 git that had under privelages i believe but nothing crazy. hermes has, and likely always will install stuff to the ps3 that only a hermes payload. i dont think we will see hermes payloads be used for this CFW for that reason. pl3 now though being used for CFW is causing problems, but again i dont think its problems with PL3 just how its being used for CFW (pl3 was never released for 3.55 so i dont think youll get kakaroto backing stability with pl3 and 3.55.

it will improve with CFW but dont hold pl3 responsible for the constant file permission issues we're having.

The file permissions issue IS due to a bug in PL3(typically the NOUNAUTH ver). The issue was never with Hermes. Kakaroto has admited that himself in the past.

Also, I've never had a single freeze or lockup since I started using Hermes(part of the reason why I'm still on 3.41) while with PL3(all versions) there would be atleast one lockup in every sitting. PL3 is very unstable, for the majority of users...evidently. I don't think anyone is being a fanboy here..just speaking from our very real experiences.

Is not a bug, it's a feature which Hermes lack (Hermes v4b have a better discless support)

and i blame OFW3.41 of causing troubles to OFW3.55/3+FW^^

dont worry the freezing is normal. ive been on a pl3 payload for ages now and it always freezes, since this cfw uses pl3 it will freeze as well.

Good news, the freezing become less frequent over time and you'll get used to it.

noobs love hermesv4b and so do people who never use retail mode or play games off disc.

if you arent one of those, then odds are you understand pl3 and dont think its a peice of crap like the OP does. thats about the only difference between the two payloads that most see.

Excuse me, but you are very wrong. I'm getting so much freezes now with pl3 that i never had on hermes before I updated to 3.55.
PL3 makes Uncharted 2 game unplayable and I don't know how to fix it except to use hermes's payload, cause it worked flawlessly. No permission fixes help this.
Damn, 16 freezes in a row just never getting to the title screen is painful. I got liky 1 time and played 5 chapters without issues and then bam, frozen. Now I cant get even to it, game doesnt get ingame because of freezes and doesnt recognize my saves, so I should start all over again. Not counting trophy loss. Then after one of freezes I couldnt start a game completely, ps3 couldnt make a savefile and showed 80030001a error code.
Made a fix hdd data (or whatever it is called there) in recovery menu, but from that point havent started the game yet, dont know if it will help.
Now playing castlevania for an hour and no issues so far, hope will not catch a freeze soon.

I've always sported Hermes and never had a problem, so had no reason to change (I'm still on the original PSN payload). I remember when PL3 first came out it didn't work with many or all games, the incompatibility reinforcing my decision to stick with Hermes.

But that ended up getting solved with the permissions fix didn't it? Maybe the OP still has the early releases in mind, not to mention how current problems could be caused by the CFW and having a software version of the payload in such a way maybe isn't representative of the real thing.
