3.41 or 3.55 250gb Slim CECH2101B
3.41 or 3.55 250gb Slim CECH2101B –

Hey everyone,
I was going to a buy a ps3 slim I found, that is a 250gb model and is CECH2101B from a friend. It is on firmware 3.41...
Should I update from 3.41 to 3.55?
What dongle do I need for 3.41, will True Blue work?
i plan on using it for backups, will they be more compatible on 3.41? With 3.41 do you not have to do eboot fixes?
Can I go online with either?
What is the best firmware for 3.41, and compare it to 3.55 True Blue version.
Oh and if I have a 3.72 spoofer, do I need to do eboot fixes?
Which should I go with? 3.41, or update to 3.55?

Plenty of questions. I'll just stick to the most important ones:
1. The 3.72 spoofer doesn't actually DO anything. It just prevents you from "accidentally updating" your system... which I always thought was STUPID because how the hell do you update your system by accident? Games, however, will still see your system as its true version. They won't be fooled by any spoofer.
2. For devs 3.41 is better. For gaming 3.55 is better. You get more game updates on 3.55 and right now *for a limited time only* you can go online. 3.41 you don't actually need a dongle because..
3. The best 3.41 firmware if MFW... which you can make yourself using easily available tools for windows. One of the things you can install with these tools is access to the same syscalls that dongles use. Then you can either use Hermes or the PL3 driver (run as a program from GAME) and basically you just load that program everytime. Or... if you're using Multiman... it will just load the driver automatically when multiman starts. The cool thing about loading drivers this way (as opposed to how it's done in 3.55) is that you can basically get the drivers to do ANYTHING. You can run whatever syscalls you want, you can write directly to the PS3's low-level state... you can do all of these things by pressing a button... and then you can change the script you want to run and load some more things by pressing ANOTHER button. You'd basically have to install Linux on 3.55 to have the same functionality... but then you aren't just pressing a button at that point.
Since it seems like you're new to all this the Dev stuff on 3.41 probably won't be of much use to you. Best to stick with 3.55 (which also includes the update that enables 3D blu-ray which was introduced in 3.51.)

Sorry to ask almost the same question, but I just made a frankenstein out of three scrapped backwards compatible models and now I am left with a functioning ceche01 lacking a functioning bluray (the other two units had newer blurays with different logic boards). So I fired it up just now to find it on version 3.00 (yay!) Would you give me the same advice for playing backups?
3.55 seems to be the popular option, I don't have time to play with dev stuff anyways. thanks norain
