[Tutorial]Downgrade and Jailbreak with iPhone(2G+3G) and iPod Touch(1G) –
You might be unable to play Blu-Ray movies if you downgrade!!! (WARNING! RED ALERT! DOWNGRADING KILLS BLU-RAY MOVIE PLAYBACK!)
IPhoneLinux - PSFreedom Wiki
Jailbroken iPhone(2G+3G)/iPod Touch(1G) using PwnageTool, Redsn0w, or blackra1n.
OpenSSH (Install through Cydia)
Bootlace (Install through Cydia)
FileZilla (or something similar)
Service Mode file from PSFreedom wiki
First, you need to download Service mode files from the wiki link above. Then you need to download load DGF.rar file. *It may take awhile for this to download depending on your Internet speed* You also need to download Filezilla, too.
You need to jailbreak your iPhone/iPod Touch if you haven't already. It has to been jailbroken with PwnageTool, Redsn0w or blackra1n or it won't work with Bootlace. Now, you need to download OpenSSH and Boot Bootlace from Cydia. Once thats done, from Bootlace, you need to install OpeniBoot and iDroid. First install OpeniBoot then iDroid. Once thats done, you need to open Filezilla. Either press Ctrl+S or go to File>Site Manager to open Site Manager. Host is your iPhone/iPod Touch's IP Address. You you find it by going to Settings>Wi-Fi>Blue arrow on the network you are connected to it. Change the Server type to SFTP - SSH File Transfer Protocol and Logon Type to Normal. User is 'root' and Password is 'alpine'. After that, you click Connect and a pop-up will appear. It'll say something about saving it to cache. You can save it to cache if you want to, it'll only make you connect faster to your iPhone/iPod Touch.
Now on the right, go to var then click on idroid. Replace android.img.gz and zImage with the Service Mode file you downloaded.*Note: Do not extract android.img.gz, the file in it won't work in the downgrade process.* You can exit FileZilla now. Now you will need a USB flashdrive that put Modified 3.41 PUP and Lv2diag.self File 1 onto it. Those two files has to be the only ones on the flash drive and be in the root directory.
Before you downgrade, it is recommended to backup all of you game files/saves, video, etc because you might lose them if you downgrade. I recommend doing a full system backup so you won't lose anything game save files that can't be saved. For this, you will need an external hard drive or large enough flashdrive. To backup, go to Settings>System Settings>Backup Utility then choose Back Up. How long it will take depends on how many files you have save in your PS3 but it is well worth it.
Now you are ready to downgrade. Downgrading is almost the same process as jailbreaking. First, you will need to switch off (Phat) or pull the power plug (Slim) to do a hard boot cycle. Turn on your iPhone/iPod Touch and have Android highlighted but don't click on it yet. Don't worry, it won't autoboot into it. Plug the usb cable into the right usb port. Now press the Home button to click on Android. You'll see lines of code and stuff. Once you see OpeniBoot in big letters, press Power then immediately press Eject on your PS3. If you have done it right, the text should be bigger now and your PS3 will turned off. If not, you might have to replace android.img.gz and zImage again or you accidentally extracted android.img.gz and put android.img on your iPhone/iPod Touch.
Unplug your iPhone/iPod Touch usb cable and turn on your PS3. It should be in Service Mode. You might have to plug in your PS3 controller by USB. Make sure you plug in the left usb port. Turn off your PS3 by going to Users and choosing Turn Off System. Now plug in your USB flashdrive in the right usb port. Turn on you PS3. Now your PS3 is downgrading. You should see a black screen now and the HDD light will be flashing. When the Power button is flashing and your PS3 turns off, it has finish downgrading. Before you turn it back on, you need to put Lv2Diad.self file2 on your flash drive. Make sure it's the only file on it. Now you put the flash drive in the right USB port and turn on your PS3. Your PS3 will turn on shortly then turn off again. Turn it back on and check system settings to make sure you are on version 3.41. If you are, congrats you have downgraded. Now is a good time to restore the files you have backed up. Restoring is the same process as backing up but you choose Restore. Once thats done, you can jailbreak your PS3.
If you want to downgrade lower, you will need to get that PUP file from here.*Note: it doesn't need to be modified*. Repeat the steps above from where you put PUP file and Lv2Diag.self on your USB flashdrive but instead of the modified 3.41 pup file you use the pup file you want. Restore your game saves, etc after you are on the desired firmware you want.
Jailbroken iPhone(2G+3G)/iPod Touch(1G)
using PwnageTool, Redsn0w, or blackra1n
OpenSSH (Install through Cydia)
FileZilla (or something similar)
Zaxtron Front End(Download it from the wiki)
Desired Payload if it is not in Zaxtron Front End*Not all payloads work with Zaxtron*
USB flashdrive (For homebrew)
You should have already have OpenSSH and FileZilla if you have been following this guide, if not look in the first paragraph in the above section how to install it. Open up FileZilla go into Site Manager by either Ctrl+S or File>Site Manager and then press Connect (You can only do that if you already had set it up in the previous section). Go back into var and into the idroid folder. Now replace android.img.gz and zImage with Zaxtron Front End's. Now exit FileZilla and turn off your iPhone/iPod Touch. Turn it back on but don't plug into your PS3 and boot into Android. Zaxtron Front End will boot up. Choose what firmware are you on and choose what payload you want.*If you are not sure payload to choose, choose PL3_MOH*. Plug in your iPhone/iPod Touch and press the Home Button and it will tell you to press Power then Eject, do so. Pay very close attention to it if you have a Slim. Once it is done and you have a Slim, it will tell you unplug it. Do it quickly because if your timing is off Install Package Files will show up but you won't be able to run any homebrew and you will have to do it all over again. Once you have done it successfully, you are done. Now you can install homebrew that you want. Also, if you are going to install a backup manager, choose either Gaia Manager or OpenManager because they are the most compatible with PL3 payloads.
Remember that you will have to do this every time you want to be able to use your homebrew but you can change payloads if you want to. To exit Zaxtron Front End, hold Home and Power until it turns off. It'll reset if you keep holding it.
Hope you like my guide.
And thanks to everyone that made this possible.
Can I use a iPhone 3 GS??
No, you can't.

for some reason, i have to click on the console instead of android because android just gets stuck on calibrating multi touch something... and i hit the home button, it goes to OPENIBOOT letters.
so i click the home button and it loads to the part with the big letters OPENIBOOT and i hit the power button followed by the eject quickly and nothing happens, it just loads normally :/
I followed this tutorial and it bricked my PS3 or something.....I posted a thread with details of what exactly is going on.....if someone could PLEASE help me figure out how to fix it I would REALLY appreciate it!
everything worked fine for me except the jailbreaking with zaxtron..
when i hit the home button and then power + eject it loads and stops at DEVICE5_WAIT_READY and then the ps3 comes up tellin me theres an unknown usb-device plugged... and zaxtron runs timeout...
is it my bad timing or whats goin wrong?
thanks in advance and thanks very much for that tut
Here is ZoneTw0's post (PSGRADE finally WORKING! - Attached Compiled Hex's for All Boards!) about his own compiled PSFreedom with PSGrade. Use this instead of the Service Mode files in the wiki and do the same process.
