[HELP] Formatting HDD stuck on 99%
[HELP] Formatting HDD stuck on 99% –
hey guys im trying to install a seagate barracuda 1TB 7200.12 via an extender. it worked the first time i connected - formatted and installed 3.41 then I restarted the system and it said the data was corrupt and i had to reinstall & reformat and now formatting gets stuck on 99%. i have tried multiple times but still it does the same thing. i even tried to disconnect it and connect it to my pc and format it using fat32 and then connect it back to the PS3 it still wants to format and gets stuck on 99%.....
what can i do???
What software do you use to format the drive?
i had that problem on my seagate 640gb 5400rpm hdd. My console was on 3.15 when i was trying to install it and it kept getting stuck at 99%. so i updated the ps3 first to 3.41 (original 80gb hdd). formatted the 640gb ntfs in windows 7. then tried again and i finally worked. also im not using a jumper on the hard drive. Mines internal though, no extender.
to answer both above posts:
i used fat32formatter to format my hdd as FAT32 which worked perfectly
my ps3 is already on 3.41 on my original 2.5 internal hdd.
isn't there a 1tb internal available yet?
anyway, i think it might have to do with the drive being incompatible. i have heard that there are a few different hdd's out there that won't work.
do you have a different internal hdd you can just test your process on?
my internal hdd works, if I insert my original 40gb internal hdd i can get into the xmb. when i attach the extender (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/PS3-HD-Hard-D...item27b56cd6e6)
with the 1TB HDD (http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.js...00f5ee0a0aRCRD) inside and it says I need to do a recovery using any media that contains firmware 3.41 and above. i insert my usb drive with the update file in "PS3/UPDATE/", press Start & Select together, it detects the firmware update file and then I press Start & Select and hold to format the drive. It proceeds to formatting and then gets stuck at 99%.
please note that the first time I did this it worked and got into xmb and everything then after I switched off the console it said that data was corrupt and I had re-install, this is when the 99% issue started.
I'm looking to return the HDD today and exchange it for a compatible 3.5" one. Does anyone know which 1TB 3.5" HDD are definitely compatible with the PS3??
attach your regular internal to the extender and try that. if it works, then it is probably that the 1tb drive is incompatible.
im not at home at the moment, but I guess I could try that later one, however not sure if that is necessary given that it has already been proven to work (first time i plugged it in it formatted the 1TB hdd easily and installed 3.41 fw).
I'm think of returning the seagate and getting the WD caviar black 1TB.
it actually didn't work the first time around, after you rebooted you had problems. the process isn't successful until you can boot up without problems.
btw, i use a WD and it works perfectly.
