[ADVICE REQ] Updating from 3.55 CFW --> 3.56 OFW

Hi

I have a EUR fat 80gb CECH-K PS3.

Currently I am using 3.55 Kmeaw but now that the DNS trick has stopped working and with no news on a 3.56 CFW any time soon I am considering updating to OFW.

It may sound impatient but I cannot afford to replace my PS3 in the event of a ban on CFW (I am assuming here that Sony will refrain from banning people on OFW regardless of the consoles 'history').

Are there any risks to updating (brick etc) and can it be done directly through the XMB or through recovery mode?

Any advice or experience would be much appreciated.

Format HDD and upgrade. Simple as that.

I was hoping there would be a way to retain my savegames?

Im pretty certain I can do this with GT5 using a USB stick but Call of Duty: Black Ops doesnt have that option.

Any ideas?

Yes use a usb and put the OFW 3.55 on it and intall it in recovery menu then while on OFW 3.55 install OFW 3.56 and you should be ok...

I've done it on two PS3's. You must install 3.55OFW from recovery menu, then do normal update to 3.56. No issues at all. Also before installing 3.55OFW run Wipe History or similar.

I pretty sure you can update w/ no risk of Ban, Sony is not that stupid to ban someone who has decided to switch to the darkside( w/ all the other minions)
